DALLAS, TX.- More than 2,300 coins from around the world, many of them unique and/or finest-certified examples, have positioned Heritage Auctions’ World & Ancient Coins Platinum Session and Signature® Auction, which will be held August 25 and 27-28, to be its finest world and ancient coins yet.

A Meiji gold Pattern 10 Yen Year 3 (1870) MS66 NGC (estimate: $500,000-700,000) is among a mix of classic rarities and issues that seldom reach the open market.

“This is the single finest certified example in the world,” says Cris Bierrenbach, Executive Vice President of International Numismatics at Heritage Auctions, “making this one of the most impressive Japanese coins likely to be seen for some time. Also featured is a Victoria gold Proof "Una and the Lion" 5 Pounds 1839 PR63 Ultra Cameo NGC (estimate: $200,000-300,000), among the coveted works by William Wyon. Designed exclusively for inclusion in Victoria’s delayed 1839 Proof Set, the artistry in this coin is widely recognized to have inspired equal renown when it first was produced 183 years ago. It generated demand that far exceeded the original mintage of approximately 400, subsequently necessitating the Royal Mint’s production of additional examples upon demand for nearly a half a century, until 1886.

Demand for coins designed by Wyon does not end there. The auction includes a total of seven lots by the revered artist, including but not limited to:

An Elizabeth II gold Proof "Gothic Crown Portrait" 2000 Pounds (2 Kilos) 2021 PR70 Ultra Cameo NGC (estimate: $100,000-200,000), one of just eight struck for a Limited Edition Presentation Mintage. A truly spectacular rendering of William Wyon and William Dyce's instantly recognizable “Gothic Crown” portrait, it certainly is one of the most popular issues during Victoria's prolific reign, ranked among her “Una and the Lion” and jubilee coinage, and now as part of Elizabeth II’s “Great Engravers Series.”

The finest of all certified and likely uncertified representatives across all mintmarks for the type, an Elizabeth I (1558-1603) gold Pound ND (1595-1598) MS66★ NGC (estimate: $80,000-120,000) is a fantastic rarity of not only Elizabethan coinage, but of all British numismatics, struck in the later years of the famed queen's reign and ranking leagues beyond many of even the finest survivors of her monarchy. It is difficult to overstate the importance and desirability of this magnificent coin, which rarely is seen in what is largely considered an unobtainable gem designation.

All told, the event includes 2,368 lots – 681 of which come from three extraordinary private collections.

Cape Coral Collection of German Coins

Some of the finest World Crowns to come to market are included in this collection, which has been acknowledged after more than 10 auction sessions over the last five years as the premier source of quality for the type. In the first installment of the Cap Coral Collection’s core German selection, bidders will have the opportunity to pursue examples from what is widely regarded as the finest assemblage of German Talers ever compiled by a private collector. Few lots rank below choice to gem, and even those outliers have been preserved exceptionally well. Many of the coins in this collection can be traced to some of the most famous names in the hobby – among them Brand, Böttcher, Köhlmoos, Millennia, Goodman and Grundy.

Petropolis Collection

Bidders will have a chance to chase seldom-seen gold rarities of a caliber of the sale nearly a decade ago of the Collection of Dr. Roberto de Lemos Monteiro – The RLM Collector, who assembled one of the most prestigious collections of Brazilian gold types seen in this century. The Petropolis Collection includes beautiful specimens from the early days of coin minting through the falloff the empire and the start of the Republican era.

The first portion of the collection was curated to complete the gold series, including the Joćo V gold 10000 Reis 1724-M UNC Details (Cleaned) NGC (estimate: $20,000-40,000) and the Joćo V gold 400 Reis (Cruzado Novo) 1725-M Clipped NGC, as well as other pristine Minas Gerais mint pieces like the Joćo V gold 20000 Reis (Dobrćo) 1725-M MS63 NGC and the MS61 1731-M 800 Reis. Also featured are stunning Bahia Dobras (12800 Reis) from 1727 (estimate: $8,000-12,000), 1729 (estimate: $10,000-20,000) and 1730 (estimtate: $10,000-15,000).

The Petropolis Collection also includes a handful of scarce pieces that can be traced to early important gold collections from the 1980s and 1990s, including a Pedro II gold 4000 Reis 1707-R AU Details (Removed From Jewelry) NGC and a Joćo V gold 3200 Reis 1749-R XF (Altered Surface).

The collection even includes two coveted representatives from Pernambuco: the Pedro II gold 4000 Reis 1702/1-P AU Details (Cleaned) NGC is the sole gold date and denomination struck at the short-lived mint, and the Dutch Colony - Geoctroyeede West-Indische Compagnie (GWC) gold Klippe 12 Guilders (Florins) 1645 MS62 NGC (estimate: $30,000-50,000) that was struck under Dutch occupation.

Historical Scholar Collection

The curator behind this collection had three goals when assembling this 196-lot trove:
· Explore specific issues, including the denarii and tetradrachms of Marc Antony and Cleopatra – the intention being to present the coins in a way that displayed as many dies as possible.

o A prime example is the Gaius (Caligula) (AD 37-41), with Divus Augustus (or Tiberius). AV aureus (19mm, 7.63 gm, 11h). NGC XF 5/5 - 4/5 (estimate: $30,000-40,000). Caligula was among the worst of all Roman emperors, but his coinage was impressive.

· Seek out pieces with specific historical significance. Examples include, but are not limited to:

· Showcase the artistry of the ancient engravers through high-grade examples of some of the most beautiful coins.
