Joslyn Art Museum welcomes new Curator of Twentieth-Century Art
Brummel, who began at Joslyn in May, previously held curatorial positions at the Cincinnati Art Museum; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City.

OMAHA, NEB.- Joslyn Art Museum announces the appointment of Kenneth Brummel (pictured) to the position of curator of twentieth-century art. Most recently, Brummel served as associate curator of modern art at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) in Toronto, Canada, where he stewarded the AGO's collection of twentieth-century art; curated numerous permanent collection displays; and inaugurated its 2017 reinstallation campaign, Look: Forward, with a suite of new modern art galleries. In 2021–22, he co-curated with Susan Behrends Frank of The Phillips Collection the highly acclaimed exhibition, Picasso: Painting the Blue Period—enthusiastically reviewed by The Wall Street Journal as a curatorially innovative, “not to miss” show featuring more than 100 objects from fifteen countries. Also in 2021, Brummel curated the AGO presentation of Andy Warhol, a career retrospective co-organized by Tate Modern and Museum Ludwig.

Brummel, who began at Joslyn in May, previously held curatorial positions at the Cincinnati Art Museum; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City. He holds a Master's in art history from The University of Chicago and a Bachelor's in anthropology from the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign.

He comments, “I am thrilled to join the exceptionally talented staff of Joslyn Art Museum at this exciting moment of growth and change for the institution. Both the Rhonda and Howard Hawks Pavilion, now under construction, and the large gift of major paintings and sculpture from The Phillip G. Schrager Collection will significantly augment the Museum's national and international profile, making this the ideal time to serve as the organization's curator of twentieth-century art.”

Joslyn Art Museum executive director and CEO Jack Becker noted, “A published scholar with over 10 years of relevant curatorial experience, Kenneth is uniquely qualified to create dynamic programs and exhibitions on American art after 1945 for our diverse audiences. He will continue to deepen scholarship, build collections, and mount important exhibitions in the field of modern art at Joslyn. We are delighted to have him on staff.”
