Art can take many forms and is never truly defined by any rules. From abstract to cubism, art transcends what the mind conceives as beauty and presents fresh perspectives for the viewer to interpret. So, when trained architect Nasr stepped into the world of single-line drawing, he was inevitably elevating one of nature's most understated features into something breathtaking.
Continuous line drawing is the skill in which a single unbroken line is wielded to develop an image. Minimalistic, simple, yet highly technical, this art style requires an unfettered precision coupled with effortless execution. Lines are everywhere in nature; they are the shortest distance between two points and, as such, can be conceived and morphed into anything else.
Mehrad Nasr has mastered the skill of continuous line drawing and utilizes it as a potent storytelling tool.
Nasr is no stranger to using art to break communication barriers as this multifaceted artist started his journey in the industry in 2008. His first step into art came as a graphic designer while still an architecture student. In that capacity, he created brand identities, designing logos, marketing, and advertising materials, such as billboards.
He pursued his preferred architecture profession, working part-time in a firm while still in his second semester. His love for architecture was a natural extension of his familial bonds. He hails from a family where his father and brothers are civil engineers and real estate developers, respectively. With this foundation in seeing buildings ideated, created, and executed, his transition into architecture was just a natural progression.
By 2013,
Nasr had earned his bachelor's in architecture in Iran. He then moved to Sydney, Australia, where he completed his master's in architecture from The University of New South Wales in 2017.
But Nasr has never been limited to one path. Even with buildings and construction being hereditary, he had always fostered an unadulterated love of drawing from when he was a child. As he flexed his prowess in architecture, he always found the time to explore various mediums of art. So, when architecture opened his eyes to the beauty of minimalism and crafting awe-inspiring pieces from simplicity, it encompassed both his architectural and artistic processes.
Today, he is a master of the fluidity of the line. Nasr boasts collaborations with well-known brands and exhibitions all around the world and his single-line creations pull onlookers in and quickly immerse them in the world of Nasr. With a straight line, he conveys seriousness and inflexibility. If this is true of a straight line, then it can easily be summated that there is freedom, expression, and fun through his curved lines.
Without ever uttering a word, ever stroking a paintbrush, never lifting his hand once it touches the paper and utilizing a mere line, Nasr captivates. From faces contorted in laughs to bodies entwined, he incites whimsical fantasies that bombard his captive audience with deep thoughts. With just a line that doesn't break once it begins and a superb ability to draw inspiration from every aspect of life, Mehrad Nasr continues to create beauty from simplicit
