MALMO.- Elisabeth Millqvist has been working since 2011 as Co-director and Artistic Director for Wanås Konst. She will assume her position as Director for
Moderna Museet Malmö on August 1, 2022.
We are very happy to welcome Elisabeth Millqvist to Moderna Museet, says Museum Director Gitte Ørskou. Elisabeth is an inspiring and engaging leader with a strong belief in the power of art. She has been working strategically and passionately to open up Wanås to new worlds and new groups of visitors. Her holistic perspective is entirely in line with Moderna Museets manifest and mission: we see the museum as a stimulating meeting place that brings people and art together.
Elisabeth Millqvist has previously worked as a curator for institutions such as Magasin III in Stockholm and on projects at the Dia Art Foundation in New York. At Wanås Konst, Millqvist has worked with site-specific international contemporary art. Under Millqvists leadership, new works of art have been added to the sculpture park by artists such as Igshaan Adams, Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, William Forsythe, Yoko Ono, and Rana Begum. The artistic program has also been expanded to include dance and performance. In addition to her extensive experience in the art world, Millqvist has a strong academic background in art history and leadership. She has been sharing the role as Museum Director at Wanås Konst with Mattias Givell.
It has always been of central importance for me to work closely with artists and to support new projects, says Elisabeth Millqvist. In parallel with that, I have focused on building up strong educational programming both are important components of Moderna Museets DNA. In Malmö, the museum has been part of the art scene for twelve years, and it is still being shaped by the city, the arts community, and the staff. The museum is in a dynamic phase, and I am proud to be entrusted with the opportunity to lead its development.
Moderna Museet is one of Europes leading museums of modern and contemporary art. Since December 2009, Moderna Museet has two locations, one in Stockholm and one in Malmö. Moderna Museet Malmö has its own independent program of exhibitions, featuring the most significant artists of the twentieth century and today along with a selection of Moderna Museets rich collection. In conjunction with these exhibitions, the museum offers an exciting educational program for adults and children alike, along with other public engagement activities.
Elisabeth Millqvist succeeds Iris Müller-Westermann, who became Museum Director on January 1, 2017 and whose position was renewed twice. Müller-Westermann will continue to serve as a curator at Moderna Museet in Stockholm.
