NEW YORK, NY.- A very successful edition of
Master Drawings New York concluded on Saturday, January 29, with robust sales and excellent attendance across eight days of virtual and in-person programming. Continuing the tradition of presenting works of top quality, Master Drawings New York has maintained its position as the premier showcase for intimate gallery exhibitions displaying artwork from the 14th to the 21st centuries.
This years roster included four new galleries, Gray M.C.A, Agnews, Sam Fogg, and Nicholas Hall, and the 21 participating exhibitors unveiled new surprises to a broad assortment of collectors and institutions.
We had an outstanding array of drawings, paintings, watercolors, and sculptures on view this season. Master Drawings New York has continuously grown and evolved in the past 16 years, and our digital programming has seamlessly become part of the fair as well as allowed us to connect to our community and bring together scholarship in new ways. Its a privilege to work with these incredible galleries, and I look forward to what next year may bring, said Crispian Riley-Smith, co-founding director of Master Drawings New York.
Master Drawings New York presented an extraordinary line-up of partner events in person and online. All zoom events and recordings were hosted in partnership with Drawing Americaa NY-based group of drawing enthusiasts and practitioners. Highlights from this years events included a panel discussion and Q&A on Mexican muralism organized with the West Harlem Art Fund at The American Academy of Arts and Letters, a curatorial conversation online with The Metropolitan Museum of Art sponsored by Christies and titled Drawing in Radical Times: Artists in the Orbit of Jacques Louis David, and a talk with Assistant Curator of European and American Art Alexandra Letvin at the Allen Memorial Art Museum coinciding with an online special loan exhibition, among others. Master Drawings New York has continued to host loan exhibitions from university museums even with the limitations of the past two years, and the Allen Memorial Art Museum is the 5th institution to collaborate with the fair.
Notable sales at Master Drawings New York included:
Jill Newhouse Gallery had a wonderful turnout for their exhibition, The Drawings of Jean-François Millet, with strong attendance by American museum curators. Along with selling works by Millet, they also sold works by Pierre Bonnard, Louis-Léopold Boilly, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, and Henri-Joseph Harpignies.
