La Belle Epoque Auction Gallery shines at their premiere February 5th auction in Manhattan

NEW YORK, NY.- New York City’s newest full-service boutique auction house, La Belle Epoque Auction Gallery, enjoyed their premiere auction on Saturday, February 5th in Manhattan, offering a friendly new auction experience to art and antique lovers, dealers, collectors, first time buyers and consigners.

The day turned out to be quite successful, also giving auction lovers the chance to attend in person, following safety guidelines, resulting in quite a few “in the room” buyers. Of course, the auction was presented online as well. The inaugural auction at La Belle Epoque Auction Gallery featured a little bit of everything, with a selection of hundreds of items including fine and contemporary art, antiques, furniture, Mid Century Modern, decorative items and collectibles from multiple estates.

Highlights in the decorative arts arena were an Art Deco Style Bronze Figural Table Lamp, after a model by Feral ne Pierre Le Fageays (French 1892 - 1962) with applied patina and modeled as nude figural posed in front of draped swags raised on a stepped pinch base, 15.75 x 11 x 5, which sold for $5,120, a French Limoges porcelain table service, misc assorted group of table service articles, retailed by Tiffany. 20th Century, selling for $9,600 and a pair of 19th century French empire candelabra, gilt bronze 8 light candelabra with single center tapering fluted center support radiating 7 candelabra arms with foliate motif bobeche and drip plates supported by flattened and fluted pilasters raised on a footed base now electrified as lamps. Approx. 39” H, going to one lucky bidder for just $875, while a 20th Century Mexican Sterling Silver Platter, 20” diameter, Sold for $1525.

Mid-Century Modern was well represented in the sale, with a Mid-Century Modern Bookcase, Herman Miller – Charles and Ray Eames, Modernica, late 20th century, 58 ½” x 47” x 16 ¾”, which sold for $1280 and a pair of a Pair of Leather and Chrome LC2 Club Chairs by Le Corbusier for Cassina , each 28” x 27” x 24”, selling for $768, with two other identical pair also offered. Other furniture included an 18th Century Queen Anne Highboy raised on Cabriole legs terminating on Dutch pad feet, Cherrywood 63" x 38" x 18.75, which went for $1,025.

Fine and Contemporary Art, some very affordable, also had a good showing with a Polychromed oil on canvas of Two Women, Charles Levier AKA “Villard” (French 1920 - 2003), Early/Mid 20th, which sold for $2050, a French 19th C. Oil Painting of Venice in gilt frame by Paul Charles Emmanuel Gallard - Lepinay (1842 - 1885), signed lower left, 18" x 28”, selling for $1,152 and an oil painting on board by Arthur Drummond, British (1871 - 1951)Fortune Teller Figurative painting in classical setting 23" x 19" English 20th Century, going for $1,280.

Original vintage posters also brought a lot of attention both in the room and online, with a Cachou Lajaunie Original Vintage Poster, French, 1875 - 1942) Matted and Framed, 58" x 38" , selling for $3,580, an Automobiles Renault Original Vintage Poster, Framed , printer Pierre Lafitte 61-3/4" x 45-1/4" French 20th Century. Sold for $2,048 and an Original Vintage Poster by Fix Masseau c,. 1968. France, by Fix Masseau (1905 - 1994), 46" x 61 3/4, going for $960, while an Original Vintage Coca Cola Gas Today Metal Sign, circa. 1932, USA,. 55" x 19" American 20th Century, went for $1536.

Many in the art world already know the La Belle Epoque name from being the New York area’s top vintage poster dealer and gallery, specializing in authentic Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Mid-Century posters from the Belle Epoque era to modern times (1860’s to the 1990’s). La Belle Epoque Vintage Posters will continue to be maintained as a separate business.
