Photography is an art available to everyone.

Photography is undoubtedly one of the fastest growing and most popular areas of art today. While there were heated debates about whether photography could be considered a full-fledged art in the early days of the first photographs, today such discussions seem like a mere joke. Over time, photography has been ranked alongside sculpture, painting, and graphics.

Today large-scale exhibitions are constantly organized worldwide, where the works of photographers in a single style are exhibited. However, the notion of style in photography is very subjective. It is sometimes difficult to define and bind in a given framework but easy to recognize just to look at the picture. Style in photography includes such characteristics as an interpretation of the chosen topic, the use of color, shooting technique, tone, composition, the transferred mood, and more. All of this together forms a particular style of photography.

At the same time, modern photographers-artists can create their unique style of creativity, or they can work in the general style (fine landscape photography, glamour, retro, etc.), distinguishing themselves by specific handwriting. The style in photography is often formed under the influence of the processes taking place in society, new trends, and ideas in different areas of human activity. You can see the following genres of photography with examples by clicking here.

Genres of photography

Pop art

For example, the Pop Art style that was very popular in America in the '50s and '60s of the last century left its trace in photography. Pop art artists erased the boundaries between mass-produced products and unique cultural objects. One of the leading creators of Pop Art was the American Andy Warhol, who created glamorous collages with Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe, among others. The Pop Art style is characterized by bright colors, high contrast, abstract drawings,, and streamlined forms in photography. The photographer's task here is to attract the viewer's attention with color, eye-catching shapes, or some other unexpected technique. Pop art is still trendy in photography today because it encourages the photographer to think creatively and think creatively about the process of shooting.

Retro style
Retro style in photography is an opportunity to show a certain charm and charm of a past era, which has dissolved into the depths of centuries with the advent of our time of technology,. Therefore, retro photos are distinguished by some kind of historical belonging, sophistication,, and the embodiment of a sophisticated style. Not without reason, retro-style images often become a natural decoration of interiors. They carry the memory and vivid memories of bygone days, people, and events. But it is not easy to make a good retro-style photograph today because modern digital equipment and photographic materials can record things that the old film would not consider.

Therefore, black and white fabrics are used to take pictures in retro style, which have low sensitivity. If colors are added, they are characterized by a minimum of halftones and dimness. In addition, to get quality retro photos, you need to create an authentic atmosphere of antiquity with furniture, clothing, and furnishings that belong to a particular historical era. Creating such interiors sometimes takes a lot of effort and labor, but only then will the results justify the photographer's expectations. The pictures, made in retro style, bear a particular mystery and sadness for the irrevocably gone time.

Vintage photo
A vintage photo has similarities with the retro style, but at the same time, it has its differences. As you know, the concept of vintage in French means wine of the highest quality. About art, it implies that a certain exclusivity and uniqueness should distinguish all items or creative work made in the vintage style. The best of the past that's how you can describe the vintage style of photography. Vintage-style photos are never outdated, despite the emergence of fashion trends and trends. The photographer has to work hard for the resulting photograph to stand the test of time without losing its elegance and novelty. In the age of modern technology, he can use various editors and programs which help him give the picture a vintage effect with faded colors and signs of wear and tear.

These and other photography styles are perfectly recognizable because of their distinctive features. However, when practicing photography, an artist does not have to approach the process of photography in terms of the standard templates and rigid formulas of one style or another. A photographer can choose the style of his work based on his own practical experience, trying to be creative in all aspects of photography every time. To reflect his vision and perception. Only then will his pictures be recognizable regardless of the style of photography he uses. Individuality is a rare gift and, therefore, precious.
