Repairing a cracked ceramic kitchen sink – Step-by-step guide

Dropping pots sloppily in the sink gives you cracks which you end up finding a solution for kitchen sink crack repair. Follow Lisa’s sink formula to fix these kinds of sink issues.

Things you will need;
● Sandpaper
● Epoxy resin mixture/Ceramic putty
● Sink color
● Paper towel
● Stirring stick
● Sponge
● Plastic sealing wrap
● Single-edge razor blade
● Dish cleaning liquid
● Detergent
● Scrubber
● Gloves
● Nail polish remover
● Painter’s pant

Step 1: Deep clean the sink
Before applying the epoxy resin to the cracky part of the sink, you need to clean it deeply. Take an empty container, add dish cleaning liquid, a small amount of detergent, and mix them well.

Remove extra items and wet the sink. Now sprinkle the solution all over the sink and rub it using the scrubber. Make sure to remove every stinky mark from the sink before moving forward.

After a good scrubbing for 10 minutes, wash the sink. Again check whether there is any mark. If yes, again apply the solution and scrub the sink.

Step 2: Sand the crack
After deep cleaning the sink, use fine sandpaper to roughen the cracked part. Make sure you are wearing gloves while scrubbing the sink to protect your hands. The sandpaper should be 400-600 grit.

Focus mainly on the edges because that is the point where the adhesive solution will stay. While scrubbing, don’t go near the unblemished parts. Otherwise, you will end up doubling your task.

Step 3: Apply painter’s tape and sealing wrap
Use painter’s masking tape and apply it around the edges. You might be wondering why you add masking tape? The masking tape will keep the epoxy/ceramic putty at its place, awaiting it to dry up.

After masking the edges, use a plastic sealing wrap to shawl the unblemished parts. For sure, while applying the putty, you will create a mess. Sealing the unblemished parts will prevent the sink from further damages.

Step 4: Prepare the repair compound
You have two options to fix a crack in a kitchen sink, whether you can use the ceramic putty or the epoxy resin mixture.

Talking about the epoxy resin mixture, it comes in two parts, hardener, and resin. When mixing both components, you prepare a solid compound. Remember, this mixture is super active on drying. After preparing the combination, you’ll quickly need to apply it to the cracks.

The second option, ceramic putty, is also super handy. You need to buy one pack from the market and prepare the mixture following the mentioned guidelines.

Step 5: Apply the repairing mixture
After preparing the mixture:
1. Keep on stirring it using the stirring stick since it dries swiftly.
2. Take the single-edge razor blade and fill the crack.
3. Make sure to fill the gap with a sufficient amount.
Again, your focus should be on the edges. Once done, use the paper towel and cover the solution and let it dry for a few hours. Make sure not to use the sink during these hours. Or else, the solution won’t set the way it should.

Step 6: Smooth the edges
After a few hours:
1. Check whether the mixture is fixed with the sink perfectly.
2. If yes, remove the paper towel and use the sandpaper to smooth the mixture.
3. Gently rub the sandpaper on the mix and level it with the sink.

Step 7: Give the final touch
Don’t you think the color of the mixture and sink is contrary, and you need to fix it as well? Of course, you need to!

Take a picture of your sink, and find the exact ceramic sink color from the market. Use the sponge to apply the paint. Don’t apply additional layers as it will look fake. After applying around 1-3 layers, let it dry.

Now remove the masking tape, sealing wrap, and have a look at the final result. At the points where you accidentally dropped the ceramic sink paint, use nail polish remover to remove the stains. Give a last wash to the sink, and that’s it!
