Art Collector and Curator David Whitney, 66, Dies |

NEW YORK.- Art collector and curator David Whitney, 66, died. At the Whitney Museum of American Art he organized exhibitions on Cy Twombly, Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol. He recently organized a Willem de Kooning exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery. He bought art of many artists before they became famous, among them Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, and James Rosenquist.
David Whitney studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. There he met Philip Johnson and later they became companions. Whitney worked later at the Museum of Modern Art.
