Hans Memling, Portrait of a young man, The Metopolitan Museum, New York. Robert Lehman Collection.
BRUGES, BELGIUM.- The Groeninge Museum presents Memling and the Portrait, on view through September 4. This international exhibition of Flemish portrait painting in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries brings together some twenty portraits by Hans Memling. The loans derive from famous museums in Europe and the United States of America and will be shown successively at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza (Madrid), the Groeninge Museum (Bruges) and the Frick Collection (New York). Each institution will highlight particular aspects of Memlings portraiture. In Bruges the focus is on the very existence of portraits and on the donors who had themselves portrayed in a religious context. Commissioner-General: Till-Holger Borchert
In cooperation with the Frick Collection (New York) and Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza (Madrid).
