ROCKLAND, ME.- The Farnsworth Art Museum and Wyeth Center presents N.C. Wyeth: Landscapes and Illustrations, on view through November 06, 2005. Newell Convers Wyeth, painter and illustrator, was born in 1882 in the small rural town of Needham Massachusetts, where he remained through high school before moving to Wilmington, Delaware, in 1902 to study at the Howard Pyle School of Illustration.
Over the years, N.C. Wyeth divided his time between painting landscapes in Maine summers and producing his commissioned illustrations during the winter in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, thereby producing a unique and diverse body of work that is highlighted in this exhibition. This selection of watercolors, drawings landscape, paintings, illustrations and other works including several portraits of his family is drawn from both the museum's own collection and a unique collection of works on loan from the Needham Free Public Library.
