New Wing Groundbreaking at Art Institute of Chicago |

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.- The Art Institute of Chicago is holding a series of free outdoor and indoor public events on Tuesday, May 31, 2005, to celebrate the unveiling of plans for the Art Institute's new north wing designed by Renzo Piano. Starting at 8:30 a.m., in the garden at Michigan and Monroe, there will be performances by Redmoon Theater, brass musicians from the CSO, the Chicago Children's Choir, and Goodman Theatre actor Roderick Peoples. Mayor Daley, John Bryan, and Renzo Piano will be speaking.
During the event, the design of Art Institute's new building will be unveiled. It will be the first public display of full range of models, drawings, plans. There will also be an announcement of amount raised so far in Capital Campaign. An announcement of largest single corporate contribution in museum's history will be made. There will be performances by Redmoon Theater, Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass musicians, The Chicago Children's Chorus, Goodman Theatre actor Roderick (Rick) Peeples. There will also be comments by Mayor Daley, architect (Renzo Piano, architect of the Art Institute's new north wing), and Museum Officials John H. Bryan, chairman of the museum's Board of Trustees; James Cuno, president; and Eloise W. Martin, director. The event will take place in the Stanley McCormick Memorial Court (the Art Institute's north garden, by the corner of Michigan Avenue and Monroe St.).
