Gibbs Reflective Cycle

It is a kind of reflection cyclical model which has five different stages called Experience, Description, Feelings, Evaluation, and Analysis. In 1988, Graham Gibbs developed this cyclical model of refection. The main aim of this model is to provide a structure to learn from the experience. This model helps to overview experiences, observe plan and learn from the experiences which happened positively or negatively.

Let’s understand each section of the Gibbs Reflective Model

1. Description

Description allows you to the discussion in detail about any situation or experience. You should concentrate on “What” in this section. All of your feelings and concluding statements come later.

Example of helpful question:

● What and how happened?
● What was the result?
● Who is present at the time of the incident?
● How people behave while the time of the incident?
● Why were you there?
● What happened?

2. Feelings

In this section, you just need to explore the feeling and thoughts you have experienced and what was the impact.

Example of helpful question:

● What did you feel during the time of the situation?
● What you felt before and after the incident?
● What others were feeling about the situation?
● What others may feel about the situation?
● Now, what are you thinking about the situation?
● What do you think while the situation takes place?

3. Evaluation

Evaluation gives you chance to evaluate all the things that have worked and that haven’t worked for the situation. All you need to do is, to be honest, and objective while you do evaluate. You can also focus on the negative and positive aspects of the whole situation.

Example of helpful question:

● What was the thing that was not well?
● Discuss the good and bad about the whole situation
● What things did not work as per expectation?
● How the people and you have contributed to that particular situation?

4. Analysis
This is a part when you have to make exact sense of the situation. Analysis asks you to real meaning from the experience during the situation. To find out the reasons you need to concentrate on different aspects which have done well or not. This can be a perfect place to include academic literature.

Few Example of helpful question as per the Gibbs Reflective Cycle assignment writing experts:

● How things did get worse?
● How things go as per the expectation and vice versa?
● What is the sense that you make from the situation?
● What kind of knowledge can help you to exactly understand the whole situation?

5. Conclusion

The based on your experience this section can be written to make an exact conclusion. You can include all the learning phases and show the changes that will help to improve the upcoming result.

Example of helpful question:

● What kind of skills do you need to handle the situation effectively?
● What are the alternative things that can be done?
● Discuss the points that make the affect situation positively.
● What did you learn from the situation?

6. Action Plan

While the same situation happened again, how would you handle it? The things that you would do differently during the same situation called action plans. It can be quite helpful for you to think about the steps to alter or to avoid in particular situations.
Example of helpful question:

● During the same situation, what are the things that can be done differently?
● Which are the skills you need to develop to deal with the same situation?
● Identify the way that will work effectively next time?
