Canadian Sculptor Jonathan Thomas, 59, Dies

NEW YORK.- Canadian sculptor Jonathan Thomas, 59, died in New York this past Monday at his home. According to his partner Edward Albee, the playwright, the cause of death was bladder cancer. Jonathan Thomas was born in Hamilton, Ontario. He studied at McMaster University and got a bachelor's degree in science and mathematics and later in art history. He then did graduate studies in art history at the University of Toronto.

Jonathan Thomas created abstract totems with materials such as wood, steel, wood pulp, and polymer resin. He also created works called language robes consisting of constructions similar to banners draped over armatures.
