LONDON.- The Collection of Mrs Henry Ford II – Eaton Square and Turville Grange was held at Christie’s London today and realised £3,988,938. The sale was 96% sold by lot and 93% sold by value, with participation across 6 continents and 35 countries. The sale comprised 320 lots with estimates ranging from £500 to £300,000. The auction contained a broad spectrum of decorative and fine arts from Mrs. Henry Ford II’s two UK properties, Eaton Square, London and her country home Turville Grange, in Buckinghamshire. The London sale was led by a John Duncan Ferguson (1874 – 1961), The Chinese Coat (estimate £150,000-250,000), realised £412,500.

The immense interest shown from around the world is a testament to Mr & Mrs Ford’s taste and demonstrates the continued robust appetite for interesting works of art in good condition with a compelling story.’

Results highlights include:

• Samuel John Peploe R.S.A. (1871-1935), Boats in Port, signed 'Peploe' Painted circa 1910-12. Estimate £60,000-80,000. Realised £225,000

• A matched pair of large Chinese Famille Verte Bottle vases, Kangxi Period (1662–1722) Estimate £15,000-25,000. Realised £75,000

Duncan Grant (1885-1978), Still Life with Oranges and Lemons. Estimate £10,000-15,000. Realised £50,000

A Louis XV ormolu-mounted Chinese black and gilt lacquer Bombe Commode by Laurent Felix, circa 1755. Estimate £50,000-80,000. Realised £137,500

A Renaissance Revival rock crystal, hardstone, enamel, gold and silver-gilt mounted casket. Estimate £10,000-15,000. Realised £41,250

Twenty-eight goblets mounted on toy-car feet, 20th century. Estimate £300-500. Realised £8,750

The Collection of Mrs. Henry Ford II: Palm Beach, held at Christie’s New York on 30 March, realised £3,447,947 / $4,744,375 / €4,027,202. The sale was 85% sold by lot and 89% sold by value, with participation across 5 continents and 32 countries. The top lot of the auction was a pair of late Louis XV ormolu-mounted, ebony and vernis martin meubles d'appui attributed to Joseph Baumhauer, circa 1770, which totaled $846,000, double the low estimate. Additional top lots reflecting the diversity of the collection included Aristide Maillol’s bronze sculpture Eve à la pomme selling for US$237,500, and a set of eighteen Royal George I silver dinner plates, mark of Nicholas Clausen, realizing US$231,250, far exceeding the estimate of $15,000-25,000.
