ROME.- Andrea Festa is presenting the very first solo show in Italy of Danilo Stojanović (b.1989 Croatia) titled Mourning the Red Cactus curated by Domenico de Chirico.
Danilo Stojanović's artistic research finds a crucial point in the liminal experience of the double status, permeating existence and above all consciousness in its most hidden aspects. This centrality, however, transversely encounters other characteristics, real despicable disturbances that whisper to the unknown longing, the ancestral desire, the fluctuating ambiguity of metaphysics, so that they all participate in the dialectical dance of the impulse of life and death. Thus, following such a rhythm, a complex relationship is clearly evident in his works, between the fluidity of the painting and reality as seen by consciousness. This can be considered, in the author's experiential process, as a transition phase preceding the formation of the somatic markers, according to the definition of the Portuguese neurologist and essayist António Rosa Damásio, which is based on the central role of emotions in social cognition, which are hypothesized to guide and strongly influence subsequent decision-making. Freuds concept of the uncanny plays an extremely important role within the dynamism of this process. It essentially describes the feeling of disorientation and estrangement, the psychological experience of something as strangely familiar, rather than simply mysterious. It is everything that should not be represented and that should remain secret, latent, intimate but instead has reemerged. The extraneousness of familiarity means that otherness is conceived as the darker and more rooted side of our subjectivity. Hence the birth of the Double status, as above mentioned, which speaks the same logos, in a different but inexorably connected way.
It comes from his wounds, the result of the restlessness of the unconscious, in a mourning made of pleasure and suffering, aimed at searching for the deepest essence of the human being, the roots that bind him to the earth and the inevitable interaction with the world to which he belongs to.
