Robert Doisneau's The Kiss Photo To Be Sold in Paris |

Robert Doisneau, Le Baiser (The Kiss).
|
PARIS, FRANCE.- Françoise Bornet, who appeared in Robert Doisneaus photograph Le Baiser (The Kiss), has decided to sell the picture. Ms. Bornet appears kissing with her then boyfriend Jacques Carteaud. According to her, Doisneau sent her the picture a few days after taking it as an assignment for Life magazine. The picture became a symbol of Paris romance in 1986 when it came out as a poster. At first it was thought that the picture was unposed, but it was later revealed that Bornet and Carteaud were asked to kiss for the camera. Doisnea had seen them kissing in a café and he asked them to pose kissing.
Ms. Bornet stated, "I now think of it as a picture that should never really have existed. That's why I'm getting rid of it. The photo was posed. But the kiss was real."
