New Ways of Seeing...What's in Vogue |

MIDDLESBROUGH, UK.- Controversial artist Graham Dolphin is taking a fresh look at fashion – and bringing his latest work to Middlesbrough. Dolphin hit the headlines when multi-national publishers Conde Nast blocked a display of his work – featuring distorted covers of their Vogue magazine – at London’s Barbican centre.
He will be launching a new book and exhibition ”Everything in Vogue” bringing together his work over the last six years and new drawings in Middlesbrough this week.
The drawings were made for the new book published by Arts Editions North. The book is edited by Judith Winter Middlesbrough’s curator of fine arts and contains an essay by mima Director, Godfrey Worsdale.
Dolphin’s works include manipulated fashion magazine covers using screws, human hair, thread, and the content of vacuum cleaner bags and burn holes. Other works include redrawn beauty ads and intricate drawings created by tracing every element of a magazine’s contents -every shoe, every bag and every watch onto a single piece.
Dolphin’s work is characterised by the re-presenting and manipulation of fashion objects, images, sounds and music as well as other forms of popular culture.
Godfrey Worsdale, said: “Graham is one of the country’s most interesting young artists – his work invariably makes a big impression on people I am glad that Middlesbrough has the chance to showcase his work in the run up to the opening of mima. ”
“Everything in Vogue” is exhibited from 15 April until 15 May in Psyche and Café Sassari on Linthorpe Road in Middlesbrough. Copies of Everything in Vogue will be available from Café Sassari, mima and Cornerhouse.
