3 Useful Hacks for Every Bathroom's Hopeless Mess

If there is one place that needs organization and reorganization all year round, it is the bathroom! How many times have you knocked over your lotion bottles just to reach for your body mist? How much time did you lose rummaging around for your bobby pins and hairspray?

You might not have a big bathroom to have a space for all your grooming stuff, but you can make it clutter-free. Keeping this room organized is more than aesthetics. It is making it functional and easy to use! After all, this room is a part of our daily lives. Turn it into spa-like zen with these simple hacks:

1. Declutter and Organize
A tidy bathroom paves the way to smoother mornings and tranquil evenings. We can bring order to this personal space by simply using bathroom cabinets. Imagine this: You woke up late for work and you rushed through the bathroom. Only this time, know where to find what you need—your go-to skincare products, your shaving cream, or your dry shampoo—saving you your precious time, effort, and most of all, stress!

Purge
Yup, that is the first step to start your bathroom decluttering and organizing journey. Like how minimalists would do it, gather all your stuff and put them out in the open, including every tissue box, cleaning supplies, first aid kits—all of them. Most people get amazed that a mound of products has been sitting on their shelves for a long time, only to find that they are already expired! If you have anything that has not been used for the last six months, check the expiry dates.

Then sort them into three: keep, donate, and throw away. Keep only the things that would bring value to your life, what matters to you. Get rid of the rest. Sounds like a simple task, but we all know how challenging it is. However, stay true to the idea of purging. Keep what you need, toss what you do not.

Sort
After you cleared all the clutter, it is time to get things organized. Store similar items together: toiletries, makeup, nail supplies, and medicine and supplements. If you have a small space to work on, you can use over-the-toilet shelves. This smartly makes the most of the space above the flush. Tall bathroom cabinets would work well, too. It will not consume a lot of space, and they fill in those areas you never thought could be used for storage.

Have a big counter space? There are posh apothecary jars that could claim that space. Throw in your meds, hair ties, cotton swabs, or bath salts and make it display-worthy!

If you have larger cabinets, you can make use of mini baskets and woven bins. Some of these are even stackable, allowing you to maximize all the space inside. Don’t forget the drawer dividers. They simplify your search for tiny items like tweezers, nail clippers, or bullet lipsticks. Plus, it prevents them from rolling around when you close the drawer.

You can also utilize the walls or the back of your bathroom door. If you are not considering installing hanging cabinets on your walls, you can still make use of them by using hooks! Hooks are inexpensive, space-saving, and easy to mount. Use them for hanging towels, hair tools, and clothes.

2. Make Cleaning a Routine
Do not wait for the day when you’ll have guests over before you clean the bathroom. We know cleaning the bathroom is no one’s favorite task. But with regular upkeep, this important chore can be made easier and less backbreaking.

Declutter the countertops daily. Put the items you took from the drawer back to where you got them. Weekly, sanitize the sink using vinegar and water solution. Clean your bathroom counters with baking soda. You can use baking soda, water, and some cleaning agents to do this. Sanitize the toilet with bleach. Lastly, vacuum and mop the floor to pick up the dust, chemicals, and hair that have likely fallen throughout the week and during cleaning.

3. Introduce Plants
Living plants make any place pleasant. While most of us buy them for their visual beauty, they offer myriad benefits than just that. Plants release oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. They improve the air quality, boost our mood, and reduce stress. From our workstations, living rooms, to bathrooms, they are a perfect article!

Keep in mind though, that not all plants thrive in the restroom. All plants need exposure to sunlight, and some need more than others. How much light does your bathroom get? Do you have windows to let some light in? Gardenia, Chinese Evergreen, and Spider Plants do well in wet, warm environments. If you don’t have windows in the bathroom, make sure you bring them out every few days so they still receive sunlight.
