NEW YORK, NY.- Black Cube announced the release of A Nomadic Art Museum: Black Cube 2015 – 2020, an expansive hardcover monograph that celebrates five years of groundbreaking, site-specific artworks. Operating nomadically as a traveling contemporary art museum, the book highlights the nonprofit organization’s five-year journey across the United States and Europe producing situational art projects in unusual spaces (abandoned bus terminals, historic mining towns, iconic modernist chapels, and even cars).

The monograph comprises 320-pages of photo documentation, behind-the-scenes images, and in-depth text, in addition to contributions by the institution’s Founder, Laura Merage, Chief Curator, Cortney Lane Stell, and accomplished writers Angella d'Avignon and Paddy Johnson. Elegantly designed, this visual compendium of more than 80 artists and 35 site-specific projects explores art’s ability to be expressed in limitless form beyond the constraints of conventional exhibition spaces. Nearly all of the artworks showcased within the book no longer exist in the public sphere. As such, A Nomadic Art Museum: Black Cube 2015 – 2020 serves as a time capsule of temporary, ambitious, and experimental site-specific art projects realized during the organization’s first five years.




Revisit projects by fellows such as Avalanche (2017), a multifaceted project that included a performance, sound installation, and the invention of a fictional enhanced water brand by the art collective the Institute of New Feeling or Unearthed: Desenterrado (2018), a site-specific artwork by Texas-based artist Adriana Corral that spoke to the deeply rooted history between the United States and Mexico. Explore group exhibitions such as the Drive-In series, which invited artists to create site specific artworks using their car, or The Fulfillment Center, which presented commissioned artworks from 18 local, national, and international contemporary artists that responded to the expanding industry of ecommerce logistics.

Unlike stationary museums defined by their permanent architecture, Black Cube roams from place to place producing site-specific artworks in the public realm. The organization endeavors to nurture the sustainability of today’s artists and inspire diverse audiences across the globe to discover contemporary art beyond the confines of a gallery. Black Cube was founded in 2015 by Laura Merage and is incubated by the David and Laura Merage Foundation.
