SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- Turner Auctions + Appraisals will present Part II of the Glenn and Taaffe Estates on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at 10:30 am PST. The sale features a wide selection of fine art, jewelry, and Asian and decorative arts. Nancy Glenn was founder and owner of the well-known, high-end interior design firm, Glenn Design Company, in Sausalito, California, for over 35 years. A social worker, teacher and active community member, Violet Taaffe was a long-time San Francisco resident who presided over a stately turn-of-the-century home. The sale is augmented by selected lots from other collectors.

Among the many artworks are paintings, etchings and lithographs by noted artists from the 16th century to the present, such as Jules Chéret, Ira Yeager, David Gilhooly, Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Georges Braque, Luigi Kasimir, Alexander Dzigurski, Thomas Alexander Harrison, Gideon Denny, and others. Antique works on paper include botanic plates by Mark Catesby, Uranometria by Johann Bayer and several maps. The sale also offers several sculptures of ceramic, bronze or wood.

Jewelry includes necklaces, pendants, earrings, bracelets, rings, brooches and cufflinks. Most feature gold or silver and precious or semi-precious stones, such as diamonds, rubies, jade, blue topaz, sapphires, pearls, jade, scarabs, onyx or others. There is also a wide range of decorative arts: crystal and glass from Baccarat, Lalique, Steuben, Murano and others; paperweights; tableware in sterling and silverplate, and from Dresden, Lenox-Boehm, Meissen, Belleek and others; miniatures; Vienna porcelain Lipizzaner horses and riders; Royal Doulton and Royal Copenhagen items; Bilston & Battersea enamel boxes; and some Southwest or Native American items. From Japan, China or Tibet come woodblock prints, cloisonne, jade jars, bronze pieces, blue & white porcelain, cinnabar, seals, textiles and more. There are also pieces of Asian or Louis XV-style furniture.

Lot 22: Framed Christopher Greenwood Map of London. From an actual survey made in the years 1824, 1825 & 1826. Published by the Proprietors, Greenwood, Pringle & Co, London; engraved by James & Josiah Neele; fine large-scale map with contemporary hand-coloring, 24 sectionalized folds laid on linen, calligraphic cartouche, table of explanation, inset-named-views of Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral, dedication to George IV. Framed 57in. h. 82in. l. Estimate $3,000 - $5,000.

Lot 228: A Large Roycroft Hammered Copper “American Beauty” Vase. Good patina. Circa 1910. Fitted as a lamp. 21.25"h x 8"d (vase only). Estimate $1,500 - $2,500.

Lot 145: A Pair of 19th-Century Cloisonné Enamel and Gilt Bronze. Inlaid overall with floral vines encircling the Buddhist symbols of endless knot, lotus, and paired fish on a turquoise ground. The central cartouche inlaid with Nepalese script on gilt floral ground. 13in. h. Condition: Very good, minor darkening to gilding. Estimate $2,000 - $3,000.




Lot 28: Alexander A. Dzigurski (1911 - 1995). Title: Seascape. Size: 48 x 96 in. Frame Size: 57 x 105 in. Condition: somewhat dirty, signs of bubbling to some of the paint surface. Estimate $2,000 - $4,000.

Lot 125: North African Carved Wood Statue of a Hunter. The figure on horseback with a woven bridle. Large size: 74in. height; 38in. length. Estimate $2,000 - $3,000.

Lot 100: Shreve & Co. Sterling Tea and Coffee Set. Georgian-style set includes coffee and tea pots, covered cream and sugar, pitcher and waste bowl. All marked Shreve & Co. San Francisco. Monogrammed. Greatest height 11 1/2in. 2954 grams. Condition: All with surface tarnish. Estimate $2,000 - $3,000.

Lot 196: 1987 $50 gold American Eagle coin, 14k gold pendant. Weighing approximately 43.6 grams; length: 2in. Estimate $1,500 - $2,000.

Lot 154: Two Carved Jade Covered Jars. 19th century. Each censer of spinach green jade. Greatest height 11in. Condition: Repair to bird form at top. Estimate $800 - $1,200.

Lot 16: Botanic Plate 'Arealu' Mark Catesby (1683-1749). Hand colored on laid paper. Mark Catesby's “Natural History of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahama Islands” in three volumes were published in London 1731-43, 1754, and 1771-1810 sight: 17 1/2in. x 13 1/2in. framed: 25 in x 22in. Estimate $800 - $1,200.

Lot 202: Diamond and 14k gold bee brooch. The bee brooch designed with body set with 19 round brilliant-cut diamonds with two single-cut diamond eyes; H-I/VS-SI; estimated total diamond weight:1.90cts; weighing approximately 7.2 grams; stamped MM; measuring 1 1/4 x 1in. Estimate $1,000 - $1,200.

Lot 266: French Enamel and Gilt Bronze Mantle Clock. 19th century. The dial inlaid with floral enamel work. 17in. h. 11in. w. Condition: Very good. Clock works not warranted. Estimate $800 - $1,200.
