So you are a musician and you create music and you release it on Spotify or other platforms. Here is the pattern: you create your single, you release it, you create the next one, you release it. It seems a little boring, doesn’t it? Plus you are not making enough of all your efforts. It means that you need to
re-approach the way you are promoting yourself.
First of all, think about your music as a story. Do you know what each story must have? Five common elements in every story make the story. They are The Characters, The Setting, The Plot, The Conflict, and The Resolution.
It has a total of 175 million users and 76 million monthly users
There are 180 million tracks uploaded on the platform, with an average of 12 hours of music per minute
There are 20 million music creators
There are also 1.2 million creators featured in playlists
There are an established audience and community that makes SoundCloud a vital part of your music marketing strategy.
Now apply these five elements to your music. Make your story, make your music sound, make it attractive, make it an attention grabber.
The Characters
You might likely be very good at that. Most artists are. The characters tell who you are. You can tell it via your pictures or pictures of your band. That might be selfies, DIY, or professional shoots, but they have to tell who you are. Throw some stories throughout the day. What you do, where you are. Draw the attention of your audience to your characters. Begin your story.
The Settings
Set the scene. Set the mood. Tell your audience what genre you are working in, what is the major mood of your music. Where did you begin? If you are a band tell how you met, where you met, and what all of you have in common, and what are your differences.
The Plot
Now we come to a plot. Do you know the definition of the plot? The plot is a literary term used to describe the events that make up a story. These events relate to each other in a pattern that creates or organizes the story.
You can use goal as the plot in your story. Let’s say you are telling your audience that you are planning to take part in a music festival later this year. Tell them what are your steps in this journey. Add a pinch of intrigue there. Make your audience to want to turn to the next page to follow your story.
The Conflict
What is the conflict in your story you may ask? Well, think about your job. Don’t you have a conflict or even conflicts on your way? Sure you do. That might be some misunderstanding between you and your bandmates, hesitations in picking the right tempo, delays in getting your album cover. Your doubts. Your thoughts? Are you going to make it? Are you going to be there, at the place you dream of? So these are all the conflicts before the resolution.
The Resolution
Your music is ready now. Release it, let your followers know. Let the whole world know that you worked hard and now your story comes to its conclusion.
Never Stop Promoting
Now final words on your story. Never stop promoting your music. Do not think that if you release a new single you should stop to promote your old ones.
What stops you from playing a song you wrote a couple of years ago? Maybe add some video to that or talk about the lyrics from the song.
All you have done is your music therefore never think of that as “old” and “new”, think of that as about a story which someone can read over and over again. All you need for that is to remember: Never stop promoting your music.
