ANTWERP.- Brussels-based designer studiokhachatryan is presenting an exciting panorama of unique and limited-editions works at interdisciplinary space St. Vincents, Antwerp.

With his innately curious nature and mathematical mind, designer Noro Khachatryan, founder of studiokhachatryan, is seeking to build bridges between objects and architecture. The designer creates sculptural objects and architectural elements in natural and industrial materials (stone, concrete, semi-precious metals and wood) and this purified visual language encourages the viewer to have his own interpretation of the work.

The exhibition presents a roster of works which are perfect examples of this process. Meronyms, for instance, is a series of objects fueled by a profound interest in the details and structural elements found in classical urban architecture. The black monoliths are erected in Noir de Mazy (Belgian black marble), a material with a clear connection to the historical architectural references.

Jag, a series of architectural candleholders handcrafted and composed out of solid bronze plates, has been finished with a raw black patina to create an impression of immateriality and to emphasize the silhouette of the objects. If, a set of side tables in solid brass and marble and dy, a sample from series of handcrafted lighting objects, a play on reflection, shapes and light, further enrich the depth and scope of studiokhachatryan’s practice.

Finally, the designer is unveiling a new project titled post, a pair of side tables sculpted in white onyx. This minimalist object, which can also be used as a pedestal, is composed of two units connected together and can be placed upside down.

Noro Khachatryan (b. 1983 - Armenia) moved to Belgium in 1999 and studied interior design at LUCA Brussels and Sitnt-Lucas architecture school. Noro founded studiokhachatryan in Belgium in 2010. Much of his work is produced in his own design studio or manufactured in collaboration with high-end industrial or artisanal partners.
