ROSLYN HARBOR, NY.- The Nassau County Museum of Art presents Picasso, through April 17. A universal artist, perhaps the greatest of all time, Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) explored every artistic idea of his time and drew for inspirations from subjects as varied as his endless list of lovers, wives and children; Greek and Roman mythology, themes of birth, life and death and war and peace; and the lure of fame, wealth and even the scandal that were never far from this controversial, complex figure.
Picasso is a very special exhibition that celebrates Picassos life and work through a focus on one superb collection, the product of an exclusive dedication to acquiring the best of this masters work. Extensive in scope, the exhibition will be mounted throughout our first and second floor galleries. It includes paintings and drawings as well as prints and ceramics from this important private collection. It was through Picassos genius and his outpouring of experimentation and adventurous curiosity that the two media of prints and ceramics were rediscovered.
Picassos art was shaped by his passionate interaction with others, especially the significant women in his life who served as milestones in his artistic evolution. Through the varied media included in the exhibition, we experience the emotional roller coaster that was Picassos life and his intense feelings of conquest and envelopment of his love objects.
This exhibition is not intended to be a comprehensive history of Picassos career. Instead, the selections reflect the personal taste and collecting passions of the individuals who have generously lent their works. Among the paintings on view in Picasso are Femme au col de Dourrure, (1937), Tete de Femme (1944), Jeune Fiulle Grand Cheveux (1945), Nu Assis (1967) and Buste dHomme III (1969).
