HONG KONG.- China Guardian Hong Kong August Auction 2020 “To Youth: Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art” completed with outstanding results following the success of the July Auction, comprising of 79 works amassing a sale total of HK$ 7.75 million, doubling pre-sale estimates, with 94% sold by lot, 100% sold by value and 54% lots sold exceeding estimates.

Ms. Vita Chen, General Manager, Senior Specialist of Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art of China Guardian (HK) Auctions Co., Ltd, says, “The auction goes beyond the standard model of major Spring and Autumn sales, by consolidating online and offline bidding for the first time, whilst curating a sale which present a variety of vivid works of art including classics from great masters and photography works. The outstanding results are contributed by our hard work, and support from our collectors - over a hundred telephone bidders from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korean and United States participated. It’s clear that the market remains strong; we will stand together as team as always, bringing the best quality artworks to our collectors. We look forward to seeing everyone at Hong Kong Conventional and Exhibition Center this coming October!”




• Six works by Yayoi Kusama all sold; two important works of Yayoi Kusama Untitled and Infinity Nets, sold for HK$ 885,000 / US$ 113,462 and HK$1,888,000 / US$ 242,051 respectively; the latter setting a world auction record as the most expensive same-sized Infinity Nets series by the artist.

• First auction appearance of artworks by NO2GOOD, Chang Teng-Yuan and Tang Tang achieved good results; NO2GOOD’s Astro Mousy attracted great interest, with online and offline bidders battling for 29 times, raising the final price to HK$ 171,100 / US$ 21,936, exceeding 3 times its presale estimate; Chang Teng-Yuan’s Connection Point-Mr. H doubled its presale estimate, hammering down for HK$ 18,800 / US$ 2,410.

• Photography works were introduced as a new category for the sale, which received enthusiastic reception from collectors; bidders pursued Daido Moriyama’s Rip eagerly, driving the final price to HK$ 212,400 / US$ 27,231 – hammering down nearly 7 times its presale estimate after a flurry of 42 bids.

• Pang Jiun, Yuichi Inoue and Ceet performing steadily with strong interest from bidders.
