While coronavirus may have stopped combat sports, at least for now, we can take this moment to look back on some of the best boxing matches of the last year.
What was your favorite fight of 2019/early 2020? Let us know in the comments down below!
However, in the meantime, weve picked out of four of our favorites, including Fury vs. Wilder (the second bout) and Joshua vs. Ruiz Jr. (also the second fight).
1. Tyson Fury vs. Detonay Wilder 2
A fight many boxing fans were waiting for: Tyson Fury vs. Detonay Wilder, the second bout. Fury fought Wilder the first time back in 2018 having overcome serious depression and substance abuse.
The second fight allowed Fury to train longer, harder, and be in a better frame of mind. Fury scored a stoppage win over Wilder, establishing himself as the better fighter once again.
2. Anthony Joshua vs. Andry Ruiz Jr.
Following a devastating loss for Joshua six months prior, Joshua risked seeing his career flash before his eyes, that and his impressive collection of world titles.
In the second bout, Joshua dealt thirty-sixty minutes of impressive blows, winning in style against the Mexican opponent.
Ruiz Jr. admits he was overweight and less prepared but you cant take away the impressive win from Joshua, retaining his title and claiming his long-awaited redemption.
3. Inoue vs. Donaire
Inoue rose to the challenge and became the unified world bantamweight champion following a victory over his opponent, Donaire.
Going the distance, the whole twelve rounds, Inoue won on points. Prior to the fight, Inoue received the Muhammad Ali trophy given to the World boxing super series winner.
Donaire - himself was a four-weight world champion, however, was no match for the Japanese Naoya Inoue.
4. Pacquiao vs. Broner
Manny Pacquiao needs no introduction, fighting greats such as Floyd Mayweather, Mosley, and Bradley.
Pacquiao is boxings only eight-division world champion, fighting Broner to end his two-year hiatus from the U.S boxing ring, returning to defend his welterweight title.
Pacquiaos speed was too much for Broner, the same defeat many of his other opponents experienced.
What to look forward to in 2020-2021?
Despite the coronavirus, boxing matches should hopefully be able to resume late 2020, so long as social distancing is adhered to for staff and organizers of the event.
With that being said, when it does happen, the biggest fight of the year, or perhaps early next year is no doubt going to be Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury, a fight fans have been wanting to see for years.
