DALLAS, TX.- The Rattray & Co. 9K gold Center Bowl presented to Queen Elizabeth II’s grandparents, the Earl and Countess of Strathmore on their golden wedding anniversary, sold for $60,000 to lead Heritage Auctions’ Fine Silver & Objects of Fine Vertu Auction May 5 in Dallas, Texas to $834,988 in total sales.

The result topped the pre-auction estimate of $618,000 by more than 35%. The auction drew higher-than-expected presale inquiries, with early bidding on 85% of the lots leading up to the auction. With so much presale interest, it was staggering to see the pace continue on auction day with many new bidders vying for lots, bringing the sell-through rates to 99.1% by value and 95.6% by lot.

A Gem-Set, Enameled Silver-Mounted Rock Crystal Figural Tazza, circa 1880 by the famed Viennese Gold and Silversmith Hermann Ratzersdorfer, known for elaborate objects of Vertu, comes from an important Akron, Ohio estate, and prompted bids from more than a dozen collectors before finishing at $47,500.

A Tiffany & Co. 14K Gold Center Bowl, New York, circa 1948 and a Pair of Tiffany & Co. 14K Gold Candlesticks, New York, circa 1948 sparked attention closing at $32,500 and $31,250, respectively. These rare gold lots, typically made in silver, came from the estate of a New York City industrialist who commissioned Tiffany & Co. to make the candlesticks and bowl in 14K Gold as an extravagant birthday gift for his wife in 1948.

A One Hundred-One-Piece Jean E. Puiforcat Cannes Pattern Silver Flatware Service for Twenty-Four, designed 1928 more than tripled its high pre-auction estimate when it brought $21,250.

Other auction highlights included, but were not limited to:

• A Hans Bolek Jugendstil Partial Gilt Silver Standing Bowl, Vienna, 1909: $20,000

• A One Hundred and Ninety-Piece Tiffany & Co. Chrysanthemum Pattern Silver Flatware Service for Twenty-Two, New York, designed 1880: $16,250

• A Two Hundred Eighty-Seven-Piece Maison Cardeilhac Silver Flatware Service, Paris, late 19th century: $15,000

• A Pair of R & S Garrard & Co. Partial Gilt Silver Two-Tier Dessert Stands, London, 1843: $11,250

• A John Wendt Silver Tureen with Cast Turtle-Form Handles and Finial, New York, circa 1865: $10,625
