BASEL.- The Contemporary African Photography Prize CAP Prize announces the 25 shortlisted projects for the 9th edition of the prize.
The prize is directed at photographers whose work engages with the African continent or its diaspora. It consists of a series of exhibitions produced in collaboration with major photography festivals in Africa and the rest of the world.
The five winners will be announced at Photo Basel International Art Fair in September 2020.
The CAP Prize aims to raise the profile of African photography within the arts and to encourage a rethinking of the image of Africa. Each year five winners are selected by an internationally sourced panel of judges, enabling the promotion of African photography worldwide. The CAP Prize is open to artists of any age and descent. Submitted photographic series must consist of 10 to 25 images. There is no entry fee. The call to the the 10th edition, the CAP Prize 2021 opens on 7 November 2020.

CAP Prize 2020
Initiated by Benjamin Füglister in 2012, the prize consists of global exposure at major international photography exhibitions such as at the IAF Basel - Festival for Contemporary Art in Basel, Switzerland. In previous years the CAP Prize winners exhibition was on show at LagosPhoto Festival in Nigeria, at FIFCV Festival Internacional de Fotografia de Cabo Verde, Eyes On European Month of Photography in Vienna, Austria, at the Uganda Press Photo Award (UPPA) in Kampala, Uganda or at the Bamako Encounters in Bamako, Mali, just to name a few. The five CAP Prize winners are annually invited to the main exhibition at the IAF Basel - Festival for Contemporary Art and spend one week in Basel. The laureates are invited to join the Edition POPCAP, an edition of limited fine art prints of the awarded series. A catalog documenting the five winners works is published in time for the award ceremony. As of 2017 the CAP Prize is executed by the CAP Association based in Basel, Switzerland
