LONDON.- With cultural institutions currently closed, Meet Me at the Museum takes listeners into the heart of museums and galleries across the UK. Each episode follows a famous face on a visit with friends or family as they uncover what makes museums tick.
Established by Art Fund, the national charity for art and the home of the National Art Pass, in 2018 and nominated for a British Podcast Award in 2019, there are a host of previous episodes to catch up on for those currently missing their museum fix.
The fourth series, hosted by Acast, launches on Monday 20 April 2020. New episodes landing each week feature:
TV presenter Mel Giedroyc at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, London
Broadcaster Edith Bowman at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, Glasgow
Arts influencer Katy Hessel at Barbara Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden, St Ives
TV personality Anneka Rice at Osborne House, Isle of Wight
Over the last two years, the show has featured a diverse range of talent visiting brilliant venues up and down the country, offering listeners a new perspective on its guests and showing a different side to museums, highlighting the important role they play as social spaces and in preserving and communicating the stories that define us.
Highlights of previous series include:
Comedian Russel Kane and his auntie Christine reflecting on the relationship between culture and class at the Whitworth art gallery in Manchester
Actor Mawaan Rizwan talking fashion, sexuality and identity with his mum at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery
Poet Lemn Sissay on art and social welfare at the Foundling Museum, London
Comedians Phil Wang and Pierre Novellie going underground on Mail Rail at The Postal Museum, London
Journalist Kirsty Wark exploring the rich history of Scottish design at V&A Dundee
Author Jessie Burton exploring the art and ideas of the Bloomsbury Group with her mum at Charleston in East Sussex
This time out, Edith Bowman and photographer Kellee Quinn explore Scottish identity and get up close with a Salvador Dali at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum; Mel Giedroyc and friend Emma Pierce visit Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, the country home of influential architect Sir John Soane, which reopened in March 2019 following a major conservation project; Katy Hessel, best known for the Instagram account @thegreatwomenartists, visits the Barbara Hepworth Museum with the artist Unskilled Worker; while former Treasure Hunt high-flyer Anneka Rice takes her friend Imogen Stubbs to Osborne House, Queen Victorias palatial holiday home on the Isle of Wight.
At each museum and gallery, the guests use their National Art Pass, which gives Art Fund members free entry to over 240 museums, galleries and historic places and 50% off major exhibitions, as well as providing a charitable donation which allows Art Fund to support the work of museums and help connect them with more people.
