COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Columbia Museum of Art presents Rhythms of Life: The Art of Jonathan Green (Dawn Helfont Christopher Galleries), through February 13, 2005. Among the most popular artists in the Southeast, Jonathan Green's vibrant use of color and composition often depicts rural scenes and people of the Gullah culture of the Sea Islands of the Carolinas and Georgia. The exhibition features over 35 works drawn from both public and private collections. Green's work is recognized for its well-established sense of place and the emphasis on the importance of community. Rhythms and Life represents a strong connection to the region and the sociological history of the Lowcountry.
This exhibition is presented in conjunction with Columbia City Ballet's "Off the Wall and Onto the Stage: Dancing the Art of Jonathan Green." This exhibition is organized by the Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston, SC. The Columbia presentation of Rhythms of Life: The Art of Jonathan Green is made possible, in part, by the generous sponsorships of Merrill Lynch and Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A.
