OAKLAND, CA.- Fine Art, extraordinary timepieces, dazzling jewelry and important Asian art will take center stage at Clars December 15th sale. The investment level property to be presented comes from prominent California estates as well as museums, private institutions and special collections.

Fine Art
Austrian painter Franz Richard Unterberger (1838–1902), one of the most important artists of the 19th century, gained his renown as a master of creating romantic landscapes. He is best known for his scenic paintings of Italy and Clars presents San Barnaba, Venezia, his oil on canvas depicting the canals of Venice. This work comes to the sale from a private UK collection and will be offered for $40,000 - $60,000.

Emil Nolde (German, 1867-1956) was one of the first Expressionist painters and member of Die Brucke. His watercolor on tissue titled Sunset, will be offered for $12,000 – 16,000.

Moving across the globe to Pakistan, an important work by Shakir Ali (1916-1975). Shakir is regarded as the pioneer of modern art in Pakistan and one of the great artists of the 20th century. His oil on board titled Still Life with a Yellow Mug, 1958, is a perfect example of his iconic style and will be offered with an estimate of $40,000 – 60,000.

Turning to America, Guy Carleton Wiggins, (1883-1962) is best known for his impressionistic snow scenes of New York City in the 1920's. To be presented on December 15th will be one of these exceptional works titled Avenue at the Library, an oil on board of a snowy winter day in Manhattan. This work carries an estimate of $20,000 – 40,000.

Rounding out the top offerings in Fine Art will be the oil on canvas titled Golden Landscapeby Henrietta Berk (American, 1919-1990). Berk’s work was noted for their strong colors and shapes and this perfect example of her mastery will be offered for $10,000 – 15,000.

The Jewelry & Timepieces
The Jewelry Department is proud to offer a dazzling array of jewels and watches for the upcoming December sale. Highlighting the sale is a large number of watches from renowned makers such as Patek Philippe, Rolex, and Audemars Piguet. Among the lots offered, the stand-outs are a Lady’s Patek Philippe, 18K rose gold Twenty-4 wristwatch offered at $18,000-20,000 and a classic Patek Philippe 18K yellow gold Calatrava wristwatch with a pre-sale estimate of $6000-8000. There are also two Rolex Day-Date President 18k yellow gold wristwatches being offered at $13,000-15,000 and $6,000-8,000 respectively. An unusual Audemars Piguet US $20 gold coin travel watch has a pre-sale estimate of $6,000-9,000.

The sale also features a large selection of diamond and colored stone rings to ring in the festive season. Highlights include a beautiful 6.34 ct. sapphire, diamond and 18K yellow gold ring with an AGL report stating Sri Lankan origin with no heat. This exquisite ring is being offered at $12,000-15,000. There is also a 6.25 ct. purple spinel, diamond and 14K white gold ring with a pre-sale estimate of $4,000-6,000 and a 3.07 ct. emerald, diamond and 18K white gold ring with a pre-sale estimate of $4,000-6,000, both rings have GIA reports. There are also a number of sparkling diamond rings, the largest with a 3.55 ct. stone.

There are several pieces on offer by distinguished artists. The first is a wonderful example by the late British designer Wendy Ramshaw featuring a set of 7 delicate chalcedony and 18k yellow gold rings accompanied by a plexiglass pedestal. Her jewelry is featured in several major collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum. There is also a sterling silver bracelet by Georg Jensen in the sycamore pod pattern.

The Asian Art & Antiques
Leading the exciting Asian offerings will be an ink and color on paper attributed to Zhang Daian (Chinese, 1899-1983). Coming to the sale from an important Nevada estate, this work will be offered with an estimate of $15,000 – 25,000.

Also to be offered will be a Chinese carved white jade censer that will attract national and international collectors alike. The censer is estimated to sell for $15,000 – 20,000.

Chinese Huali furniture will also take center stage in this category. A pair of chairs carries the estimate of $8,000 - $12,000 and a large altar table is expected to fetch $10,000 – 12,000.

Rounding out the highlights in this category will be a Chinese Huanghuali folding armchair that will be offered for $8,000 – 12,000.

Clars’ December 2019 Fine Art, Decorative Art, Furniture, Jewelry and Asian Art Auction will be held on Saturday and Sunday December 14th and 15th, 2019. The sales will begin promptly at 9:30 am on Saturday and Sunday. Previews for this sale will be held Friday, December 13th from 1pm to 6pm, Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9:00 am and by appointment the week prior.
