Scotland's National Art Fair To Celebrate 10th Year

GLASGOW ART FAIR, Scotland’s National Art Fair, will take place from Thursday 28th April until Monday 2nd May 2005. Celebrating its 10th Year in 2005, the hugely popular event will return to George Square in the heart of Glasgow’s city centre, with the widest range of quality visual art to view and buy.

The Glasgow Art Fair has grown in stature since its inception in 1996 to become the largest and most prestigious contemporary art fair in the UK outside London. An established event in Scotland’s cultural calendar, it now attracts 18,000 visitors and a diverse range of galleries from across the UK and Europe.

The City’s reputation for the visual arts, together with its position as a European shopping and style capital, makes Glasgow an ideal platform to show the best of contemporary art for sale and to encourage visitors to invest in new pieces. This year’s event smashed all previous sales records with the total value of work sold rising by an estimated 12% to c. £955,000.00.

There is no better place to get a taste of what is going on in the art world today. 53 galleries will be taking part in next year’s event, each with their own distinct exhibition stands. Whatever your taste or your budget there will be a vast range of work in all media available to buy from established artists and cutting edge talent.

Applications are currently being invited from galleries and visual arts organisations to participate in the 2005 event. The deadline for applications is December 6th 2004 and the final selection will be announced in January 2005.

The Glasgow Art Fair is a Glasgow City Council initiative produced by UZ Events and supported by Scottish Enterprise Glasgow and the Scottish Arts Council.
