NEW YORK, NY.- Today, Frieze announced Ruba Katrib (Curator, SculptureCenter, USA) and Andrew Bonacina (Chief Curator, Hepworth Wakefield, UK) as the new Curatorial Advisors for its special Frame section at next year’s Frieze New York in May of 2018. Across its three fairs, Frieze brings together leading international curators to help shape the fairs’ dynamic and thought-provoking programs, making them agenda-setting events for the art world. The subsidized Frame section at Frieze New York features galleries established in 2010 or later presenting single artist stands that feature some of today’s leading emerging artists. In 2016, the section, which was curated by Jacob Proctor (Neubauer Collegium for Culture and Society at the University of Chicago) and Fabian Schöneich (Portikus, Frankfurt), featured 17 galleries from Cape Town to Cologne. were selected for Focus last year, including 2016 Frame Stand Prize winner Bridget Donahue (New York), acknowledged for the gallery’s outstanding presentation by Susan Cianciolo.

Ruba Katrib is SculptureCenter’s Curator and is responsible for organizing exhibitions, public programs, publications, and for coordinating all aspects of programme presentation. She is also the advisor for the Focus section at Frieze London. At SculptureCenter she has produced the group shows ‘The Eccentrics’ (2015), ‘Puddle, Pothole, Portal’ (2014) (co-curated with Camille Henrot), ‘Better Homes’ (2013), and ‘A Disagreeable Object’ (2012). Smith, Erika Verzutti, Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook (all 2015), Jumana Manna, and David Douard (both 2014). Katrib has contributed texts for a number of publications and periodicals including Art in America, Parkett, and cura. magazine.

Andrew Bonacina joined The Hepworth Wakefield as chief curator in 2013, playing a lead role in the artistic programming. As the former curator of International Project Space in Birmingham, Andrew built on his reputation for working with artists at a pivotal stage in their careers including Andrea Büttner, Cally Spooner, Laure Prouvost and Redmond Entwistle among others. As Director and founder of the non-profit curatorial organisation The Island, he curated projects at The Clocktower Gallery in New York (with Haroon Mirza and Hannah Sawtell), Whitstable Biennial 2012 (with Jesse Jones, Gareth Moore, Patrick Staff and Cara Tolmie) and Art Dubai Special Projects (UAE).
