Clars Auction Gallery will present important Asian art and antiques as part of their June 17th and 18th Fine Art, Decorative Art, Furniture, Jewelry/Timepieces and Asian Art Auction. In addition, a most significant collection of erotic art will be offered as well as valuable US coin collection.
The Asian Art & Antiques
Clars will present for sale a group of eight scrolls by one of Chinas most renowned 20th century artists, Zhang Daqian (1899-1983). This collection of eight scrolls includes landscape paintings, ink and color on paper and one executed with colophon to celebrate Shaoyun [Ma Hongkui] Generals birthday. Each of these important works is signed and sealed Zhang Daqian and will be offered as one lot with an estimate of $200,000 to $400,000. This collection comes to auction from the Estate of Ma Hongkui of Los Angeles, CA. Over the past year, Clars has presented several other works by Zhang Daqian with tremendous results.
Chinese huanghuli furniture has also soared over the top at Clars and the June sale will prove to continue this trend with several pieces to be offered. Estimated to achieve $80,000 to $120,000 will be a exquisite pair of tall cabinets followed by a partners desk expected to bring $40,000 to $60,000. Contributing to the highlights of this selection will be a dining table estimated at $30,000 to $50,000; a group of six chairs estimated at $30,000 to $50,000 and an altar table with dragons carved on the apron which is also expected to fetch $30,000 to $50,000. Rounding out the huanghuali offerings will a coffee table, travelling chests and a lattice screen.
In Asian decorative arts, the significant offerings continue with a Chinese bamboo vase with a trumpet neck and ovoid body intricately carved with figures that will be presented with an estimate of $50,000 to $70,000. In porcelain, one of the highlights will be a celadon glazed porcelain zhadou with a lobed hexagonal body rising to a trumpet neck. The bottom bears the Yonzheng mark and will be offered for $20,000 to $40,000.
The Chinese jade offerings will include carvings, toggles, a hand mirror, and a censer carved with a toatie mask.
The Extensive Erotic Art Collection & Fine Art
Clars will also kick-off its summer season by adding a bit of heat to this impressive sale. Headlining the Fine Art category will be an extensive erotic art collection from the Exodus Trust collection, a non-profit charitable and educational trust. This prolific collection acquired the Aphrodite Collection as well, which was accrued over 50 years comprising erotic art from around the world. It was displayed for several years at the Erotic Heritage Museum in Las Vegas. Another major contributor was the late Ron McAllister, head designer and developer for Doc Johnson Industries. Pieces will be offered during both the Saturday and Sunday session.
One of the many highlights from this collection is the clever voyeuristic painting by Hans Zatzka (Austrian, 1859-1945) titled Through the Keyhole which will be offered for $8,000 to $12,000. Another is the very seductive work is a watercolor by Steve Hanks (American, 1949-2015), titled, Daylight's Comfort (2000), is estimated at $4000-6000. With artwork and artifacts from around the world, the collection has something for every erotica enthusiast.
In the non-erotic offerings for June, an oil on canvas by Nikolai Fechin (Russian, 1881-1995) will be among the presented highlights. This work will be offered with an estimate of $20,000 to $40,000.
Also of note from the American Southwestern and Western genres will be Kerrville (Texas), 1952, an oil on canvas by Robert Wood (American, 1889-1979. This work is estimated at $10,000 to $15,000. By artist Larry Fanning (American, b. 1938) will be the oil on canvas titled Crystal Morning Gray Wolves, 2007 that will be offered for $8,000 to $10,000. Carrying the same estimate is the oil on panel by William Wendt (American, 1865-1946), titled Clouds Over the Mountain.
Decorative Arts Important Numismatic Collection
A valuable collection of 19th & 20th century U.S. Gold and Silver Coins plus Territorial Gold and Bulk Silver Coin Lots in 46 lots will be the highlight of this category on June 18th. The star of this collection is a slabbed 1909 O $5 MS62 Gold U.S. coin NGC Certified. This rare numismatic piece will be offered for $50,000 to $100,000.
An additional highlight of the slabbed portion of this collection is an 1876 CC $20 AU58 Liberty Head Gold U.S. Coin, NGC Certified, which will be offered at $7,000 to $10,000.
In addition to this important collection, Decorative Arts will be offering a monumental Apache olla circa 1890 and a large wood turned vessel (36 in diameter) in the style of Edward Moulthrop.
Jewelry & Timepieces
Rolex takes the lead in this categorys offerings in June. Topping the list if a Rolex Yacht Master II diamond and 18k yellow gold wristwatch, post 2010 that carries an estimate of $8,000 to $10,000. A Rolex Blue Submariner, two-tone, circa 2008, will also be offered with an estimate of $5,000 to $7,000.
In addition to time, diamonds will dazzle with a pair of diamond and 14k yellow gold stud earrings with 2 round brilliant-cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 2.95 cts are estimated at $3,000 to $5,000 along with a rich selection of pendants, bracelets, brooches and rings.
