NEW ORLEANS, LA.- A beautiful continental specimen marble center table, an early 20th century French gilt and patinated three-piece clock set by F. Pelissier, a bronze figural group by the French artist Edouard Drouot (1859-1945) and a collection of over 40 men’s rings and other jewelry from a single-owner collection will all come up for bid the weekend of January 14-15.

They’re just a few of the expected top lots at an estates auction planned by Crescent City Auction Gallery, in the firm’s gallery at 1330 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans, starting promptly at 9 am on Saturday and 10 am on Sunday, Central time both days. For those unable to attend live, online bidding will be provided by BidSquare.com, LiveAuctioneers.com and Invaluable.com.

Headlining the event will be Part 2 of the estate of James C. Westerfield (1933-2016) of Jackson, Miss., plus merchandise from numerous other local and Southern estates and collections. Mr. Westerfield was an interior designer who owned and operated Westerfield Antiques & Interiors in Jackson. Part 1 of his estate was sold by Crescent City Auction Gallery on November 12-13 in an auction that grossed over a half million dollars.

The selection of men’s rings and other jewelry is from Mr. Westerfield’s estate. The continental specimen marble table is a 20th century piece measuring 34 ½ inches tall by 43 inches diameter. The three-piece clock set by F. Pellesier is expected to sell for $500-$900. The early 20th century patinated bronze figural group by Edouard Drouot, titled Curieuse, should garner $1,000-$2,000.

In all, about 1,200 lots will come up for bid over the course of the two days – items that people have come to expect from Crescent City Auction Gallery’s estate sales: period furniture (much of it French, but also American and Dutch), original artwork (by New Orleans and other regional artists), antique clocks, Mardi Gras memorabilia, Russian icons, silver and fine decorative items.

Fine French furniture will be offered in abundance. Featured lots will include a 19th century Empire-style ormolu mounted carved mahogany marble-top commode expected to hit $900-$1,200; a circa 1850 Louis XV-style carved walnut sideboard with an estimate of $700-$900; and a Louis XV-style carved oak wedding armoire, 19th century, that should reach $1,000-$1,500.

Also up for bid will be a circa 1850 Louis Philippe carved walnut gray marble-top commode with an estimate of $800-$1,200; a fine set of 12 French carved mahogany ormolu mounted Empire-style dining chairs from the 19th century with an estimate of $1,500-$2,500; and a 19th century French gilt and gesso Trumeau mirror, 56 ¼ inches tall, that should fetch $400-$600.

Not all the furniture will be French. A circa 1890 American carved walnut half tester bed, quite impressive at 108 inches tall by 58 ½ inches wide by 78 inches long, carries a pre-sale estimate of $500-$900; while a late 19th century Dutch mahogany marquetry inlaid secretaire a abattant (a French-style writing desk characterized by a fall front) should change hands for $800-$1,200.

Artwork by regional artists will include two oil on canvas paintings by Robert Malcolm Rucker (La., 1932-2001), one titled French Quarter Courtyard (est. $3,000-$5,000), the other Louisiana Landscape with Live Oak, Bayou and Figures by a Bridge (est. $900-$1,800). Rucker was an impressionist artist who opened his first art gallery in the New Orleans French Quarter at age 16.

Additional artworks will feature an acrylic on board by Marcel Stockmans (Miss., b. 1936), titled On the Dock (est. $1,000-$1,500); an early 20th century oil wash by Alexander J. Drysdale (New Orleans, 1870-1934), titled Moss Draped Oak (est. $3,000-$5,000); and a charcoal on paper by New Orleans artist George Dureau (1930-2014), titled Standing Nude Dwarf (est. $500-$700).

French lamps and lighting will also be in the sale. Lots will include a pair of unusual 19th century bronze dore figural chenet (French andiron) lamps with putti surmounts, expected to hammer for $800-$1,200; a pair of 19th century Empire-style gilt and patinated bronze five-light candelabra, both of which have now been wired as electrical lamps, that should change hands for $500-$900; and a pair of early 20th century silvered bronze candlesticks estimated to finish at $800-$1,200.

Mardi Gras items will feature a lithograph parade bulletin from Proteus (1912), titled Zoroaster, printed by Walle & Company and measuring 28 inches by 42 inches (est. $400-$600); and a group of Rex ducal badges from 1888, 1894, 1907 and 1911 that will be sold as individual lots.

A 19th century Russian icon of Christ the Savior, done in oil on gessoed wood and housed in a silvered brass oklad, 9 inches tall by 7 inches wide, should fetch $600-$900. Also offered will be three 20th century ceramic figures by Steele Burden (1900-1995) to be sold as three single lots.

Preview exhibitions will be held from Thursday, January 5th, through Friday, January 15th, from 10 am to 5 pm Central time (except on Sunday, when the gallery is closed). A late evening preview will be held on Wednesday, January 11th, that will last until 8 pm, also Central time.
