NEW YORK, NY.- albertz benda announces representation of two new artists, Tess Jaray and Fiete Stolte. The gallery will present both artists’ first solo shows in New York in 2017, with Stolte on view January 12 – March 4 and Jaray from April 20 – May 25.

Tess Jaray’s [British, b.1937] work is characterized by the enigmatic interaction of forms and colors. The patterns she creates suggest spatial ambiguities and shifting structures which work on the viewer’s perceptions in subtle ways. She has artworks in numerous public collections, including the Tate Gallery, UK; the British Museum, UK; and the Morsbroich Museum, Germany. Her paving designs can be seen in Centenary Square, Birmingham and the forecourt of Victoria Station. Jaray studied at St Martin’s School of Art (1954 – 1957) and the Slade School of Art (1957 – 1960), where she eventually became the first woman to teach at the school. She was elected to the Royal Academy March 16, 2010.

Fiete Stolte [German, b. 1979] renders the invisible aspects of the self - consciousness, the passage of time, traces of movements – into art objects. Working in a wide range of media, including bronze, glass, and Polaroid, Stolte captures “absence in action.” His work in included in the Burger Collection, Hong Kong; Faber-Castell Collection, Germany; and the Evergreen Collection, Germany among others. In 2015, Stolte had his first major institutional solo exhibition at Kunstverein Gottingen and was the subject of the monograph Hotel Absence featuring an extended interview with curator Hans Ulrich-Obrist.
