SANDWICH, MASS.- The imaginative work of 10 artists from across the country are now featured in
Heritage Museums & Gardens seasonal outdoor exhibit, Natural Threads. This outdoor art installation features works using natural and synthetic fibers that connect to the natural elements in the Museums varied terrain and lush gardens.
Each year, Heritage features an outdoor exhibit that provides contemporary artists with a 100-acre, natural canvas to work with, said Heritage President and CEO Ellen Spear. We are pleased to be a site for thought-provoking new work that resonates with the natural surroundings and inspires visitors to make connections between art and nature.
Visitors are encouraged to find each installation, which has been thoughtfully sited to create a dialogue between the artwork and its surroundings as well as provide an opportunity for dialogue among visitors about what they see and feel when they experience the artworks. Through a variety of materialssuch as knots, cables, ropes, mirrors, and yarnartists express the interrelationship of man-made and naturally occurring phenomena, taking their inspiration from varied imagery and natural landscapes. The featured artists in Natural Threads are: Ashley Blalock, El Cajon, CA; Chris Sancomb, Wakefield, RI; Melissa Maddoni Haims, Philadelphia, PA; Evan Morse, Newton, MA; Christopher Frost, Somerville, MA; Elizabeth Knowles, New York, NY; William Thielen, Carbondale, IL; Jeanne Williamson, Natick, MA; Kristen Tordella-Williams, Jackson, MS; Paul Angiolillo, Watertown, MA; and Virginia Catherall, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Natural Threads will be on display until October 10, 2016, from 9 am-5 pm, and is free with Museum admission. The exhibit is made possible with support from the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod.
