RESTON, VA.- Cairo Auction House will present a beautiful collection of antiques, carpets and jewelry on Saturday, May 7. The 150-lot auction will begin at 1 p.m. Eastern time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through
LiveAuctioneers.com.
A candidate for top lot in the sale is an exceptional 19th century Empire six-light ormolu chandelier. The fixture has bronze mounted eagle statues and other bronze decorations.
The sale will include more than 50 rugs, many of them hand-knotted Kashan rugs of Chinese silk. Tabriz and Kilim rugs round out the field.
The selection of more than a dozen pieces of furniture has a French accent, but the most anticipated piece is a 19th-century Italian pietra dura round table raised on four giltwood legs carved in the form of lions.
Fine European porcelains include examples by Sevres, Dresden, Old Paris and Capo-di-Monte items. A 19th-century hand-painted Sevres urn signed Collot, depicting Ceres with cupids on the obverse and an Impressionist-style landscape on the reverse, stands 29 inches high. It is estimated at $3,000-$4,000.
A pair of 19th-century French paintings will be offered, including a still life by Alfred-Arthur Brunel De Neuville (1852-1941), which has an $8,000-$10,000 estimate.
The auction will conclude with nearly 50 lots of diamond rings, necklaces, bracelets, pendants and earrings.
