NEW YORK, NY.- Lehman College Art Gallery announced the appointment of Bartholomew F. Bland as the new Executive Director of Lehman College Art Gallery. He takes over the executive director position recently vacated by the retired Susan Hoeltzel.

Bartholomew comes from the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers. With 22 years of museum experience, Bartholomew holds an M.A. in Museum Studies from The George Washington University and a Masters in United States History from Hunter College, City University of New York. He has conceptualized and organized more than 60 exhibitions, among them the recent travelling exhibition Industrial Sublime: Modernism and the Transformation of New York's Rivers, 1900-1940; Holly Sears: Hudson River Explorers, in collaboration with MTA Arts for Transit; a groundbreaking series of exhibitions The Seven Deadly Sins for the Fairfield Westchester Museum Alliance and American Dreamers: Reality and Imagination in Contemporary Art, for the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. As Executive Director, Bartholomew will represent the Lehman College Art Gallery in all professional capacities, develop exhibitions and public programming, and serve as the main public contact and spokesperson for the gallery.

Lehman College Art Gallery was founded in 1984 by Nina Sundell to serve as an arts center for the people of the Bronx that would play a significant role in the cultural life of the borough. Today, the gallery is an innovative center of contemporary art where visitors from the Bronx and the greater New York area can experience the work and ideas of contemporary artists. The gallery offers exhibitions that are thought provoking and that highlight contemporary visual culture through drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, performances, and film.

Bartholomew has the experience and vision to build on the extraordinary history of the gallery. He took over in official capacity on May 2, 2016.
