SHENZHEN.- The Future of Fashion is Now opens in the OCT Art and Design Gallery in Shenzhen on Saturday 26 March. Five works of art by talented and innovative Chinese fashion designers are being added to this successful exhibition, which was staged in
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in 2014 and has been running in the OCT Contemporary Art Terminal in Shanghai for the last four months. The five designers selected, Deepmoss, Fang Ye, Ffixxed Studios, Percy Lau and ZAZ, constantly explore such questions as the way fashion is changing under the influence of technology and how materials and products can be recycled. These are questions at the heart of The Future of Fashion is Now. The chosen venue is an ideal setting for the subject; the area around Shenzhen is home to a great many manufacturers who experiment with new technologies.
The five new designers can be seen alongside twenty-five international fashion icons, among them Dooling Jiang, Wang Lei, Craig Green, Pyuupiru, Movana Chen and Dutch designers like Viktor&Rolf, Pauline van Dongen, Iris van Herpen and Antoine Peters. The exhibition runs from 26 March to 31 July 2016 in Shenzhen.
Selection of the five new commissions
At the end of last year the well-known Chinese designers Zha Dang, Dooling Jiang and ZucZug drew up a list of current talented Chinese fashion stylists. Initiator Han Nefkens, guest curator José Teunissen and Feng Feng, the artistic director of the OCT Art and Design Gallery in Shenzhen, selected the designers of the new works from a shortlist. The creation of the new works of art can be followed at www.futureoffashion.nl. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, in collaboration with Han Nefkens Fashion on the Edge, will be showing these new Chinese works in Rotterdam next year. This special joint venture has provided a platform for innovative fashion designers for several years now, creating an opportunity for talented national and international fashion designers to show their work to a wide public.
