LONDON.- Royal Collection Trust has produced its first ever children's iPad app, illustrating the fascinating royal history of Britain. Kings and Queens: 1,000 Years of British Royal History delves into the lives of the 42 British kings and queens from the last 1,000 years, telling their stories through biographies, portraits and family trees.

The kings and queens are brought to life through over 20 animated portraits from the Royal Collection, many of which can be seen in royal residences today. The image of each monarch is accompanied by a biography, key facts about their life, and a timeline to set their rule within a wider historical context. An interactive quiz about each monarch allows users to test their knowledge.

The profile of each monarch is arranged in a family tree, showing siblings, spouses and offspring. Children exploring the app will learn about the links between the ruling houses, and how and why the Crown passed from one ruler to the next, from William 1 in the 11th century to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The intuitive, multi-layered format of Kings and Queens: 1,000 Years of British Royal History is aimed at children aged between 11 and 14 who are studying at Key Stages 3 and 4, and more broadly at those with an interest in British history. The app also contains downloadable, shareable, worksheets for teachers and parents.

Kings and Queens: 1,000 Years of British Royal History is produced by Royal Collection Trust and Aimer Media, with animation by Cognitive Media.

The app can be seen here in the App Store.
