LONDON.- The winner of the Stand Prize at
Frieze London 2015 is Stuart Shave/Modern Art.
A jury of international institutional curators and directors comprising Maria Balshaw (Director, The Whitworth, Univeristy of Manchester, UK), Bart van der Heide (Chief Curator, Stedelijk Museum, the Netherlands) and Jens Hoffmann (Deputy Director, Exhibitions and Programs, Jewish Museum, USA) awarded Stuart Shave/Modern Art for their two-artist presentation of Mark Flood and Yngve Holen, praising the impact of the stand and the intellectual and formal dialogue between the two artists which it generated.
The Stand Prize recognises an oustanding gallery presentation at Frieze London, and is supported for the seventh year by Champagne Pommery. The prize of £10,000 and a Jeroboam of Pommery Champagne was formally presented by Nathalie Vranken of Vranken-Pommery-Monopole, who said: What an exciting edition of the fair. I think the jury have made an excellent choice in recognising this presentation of Mark Flood and Yngve Holen.
Five further galleries received Special Commendations from the jury for their presentations: The Approach, London; Experimenter, Kolkata; Galerija Gregor Podnar, Berlin; Casas Riegner, Bogotá and Jessica Silverman Gallery, San Francisco.
The jury also commended the international focus of the fair, noting the dynamism of galleries travelling from farther afield, from Latin American to South Asia, as well as the range of galleries represented.
Frieze London 2015 opens to the public tomorrow, featuring 164 galleries from 27 countries, and offering a discerning perspective on contemporary art. The 13th edition is sponsored by Deutsche Bank for the 12th consecutive year, celebrating a shared commitment to discovery.
