HUMLEBÆK.- From 3 September through November 29, 2015, the
Louisiana Museum of Modern Art presents a rare exhibition of work by renowned British artist Lucian Freud (1922-2011), drawn mostly from the UBS Art Collection, one of the largest corporate collections of contemporary art in the world. The exhibition, Louisiana on Paper Lucian Freud A Closer Look, is part of the museums Louisiana on Paper series curated by Anders Kold and focuses on 52 exquisite examples of the artists graphic production after 1982, when Freud focused on etchings.
Lucian Freud A Closer Look explores the artists distinctive depictions of the human body strong, confrontational, challenging and impossible to ignore and allows us to examine the sum of gazes, sensations and actions as expressed in the distinctive black and white work. This exhibition follows the highly successful retrospective of Lucian Freud paintings that was presented by Louisiana in the autumn of 2007.
Lucian Freud stands as one of the most striking artists from the post-war era. His exclusion of social and period-related contexts around his figures is radical and underscores the extent to which his art is and remains art, explains Louisianas Curator Anders Kold. Freuds portrayal of the human body involves not only the totality of his many observations and his point of view, but also implicitly the models responses and our own the publics reactions. This is art that calls not only on our faculty of seeing, but also in a wider sense on the feelings that are associated with something remembered in our own bodies and psyches.
We are pleased to be able to share our extraordinary graphic works by Lucian Freud with the internationally respected Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, enabling us to make UBSs renowned art collection more accessible to broader audiences, stated Steven McCoubrey, UBS Art Collection Curator for Europe and Asia. It is especially intriguing to see such a large group of Freuds works presented together, as it offers an examination of one of Britains most influential and compelling artists.
