LONDON.- Mallett, the great English antiques house of Mayfair, celebrates its 150th anniversary this year and looks to the future with DESIGN HOUSE, a unique collaboration with leading international design brands. Fusing 18th century craftsmanship techniques with 21st century design, contemporary designers TANE, Pomellato and Calico Wallpaper will launch their newest collections against the historic backdrop of Ely House, formerly a palace for the Bishops of Ely. The three exhibitions run side by side from 21st - 26th September 2015.
For the past 15 years and following the launch of its META design business, Mallett has been pioneering the marriage of old and new. Previous contemporary design exhibitions in London and New York have attracted much attention and this years event will be the most ambitious yet.
Eleonore Halluitte Andrews, Head of Contemporary Design at Mallett, and curator of DESIGN HOUSE said; We are excited to collaborate with such exceptional talents, and honoured to present their new collections with our historical pieces. The designers and the brands at DESIGN HOUSE share Malletts passion to reinterpret and push the boundaries of skills inherited from the 18th century. We are proud to be once more the home of cutting edge-design for designers and collectors alike.
Following their popular exhibition at Mallett New York, TANE - the legendary Mexican silversmiths - will curate a display mixing a new collection by Bodo Sperlein and classic TANE pieces, such as its hand woven silver baskets. TANEs participation in DESIGN HOUSE has the personal support of Ambassador Gómez Pickering who sees it as part of the celebrations of the Year of Mexico.
Paying further tribute to the firms 1865 origins as jewellers in Bath, Mallett are delighted to welcome the Milanese jewellery atelier, Pomellato, to unveil a series of unique rings and bracelets from its renowned POM POM and TANGO COLOUR collections. The rings and bracelets are designed around extraordinary gems, with each setting meticulously crafted by Pomellatos artisans in Milan. Pomellato will host a special Afternoon Tea in support of the Gracious Heart Charity Foundation on 23rd September. By invitation only.
DESIGN HOUSE also signals the UK debut for New York based Calico Wallpaper who will showcase a bespoke installation that revisits its star marbelised wallpaper displayed in the grand first floor drawing room of Ely House. Calico Wallpaper uniquely produces non-repeat pattern wallpapers that combine artisanal methods from the decorative arts with innovative digital technologies.
