SANTA MONICA, CA.- Andrew Weiss Gallery presents Marilyn Monroe: The Making of a Legend. The gallery holds the world's largest archive of Marilyn Monroe original photography and this exhibition showcases works by 7 renowned photographers spanning the icon’s brief 17 year career--from her very first professional assignment in 1945 with William Carroll, to the last photographs taken of Monroe in 1962 by George Barris. The exhibition also highlights incredible works by Milton Greene, seen or the first time in 2015 and making their West Coast debut, after being locked away and unpublished for over 50 years. Along with works by George Barris, Milton Greene, and William Carroll, the exhibition includes photographs by Kashio Aoki, a Pan Am steward who took photos on board of Monroe and her newlywed husband Joe DiMaggio as well as stunning works by Andre de Dienes, Bert Stern, and Lazlo Willinger.

Alongside the historic photographs of Marilyn Monroe, with his Historical Fiction works, photographer Tyler Shields creates his own narrative of the impact of the passing of Marilyn Monroe.

For over 40 years the Andrew Weiss Gallery has specialized in the works of modern masters such as Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, Joan Miro, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Pablo Picasso, while growing its pop and contemporary roster of art and artists including Ron Agam, Jim Dine, Bob Dylan, Andreas Nottebohm, and Tyler Shields. The gallery also specializes in Hollywood fine photography, featuring rare photographs as early as the 1930's as well as the world's largest archive of Marilyn Monroe original photographs, from her very first to her very last photos, taken by the most famous photographers of her time including Kashio Aoki, George Barris, and Bert Stern. A third generation art dealer, Andrew Weiss is a founding member of the IFAA (International Fine Art Appraisers) and is well renowned worldwide for his expertise. Opened in late 2014, the Santa Monica, California location is the latest of four previous galleries owned by Weiss in major cities nationally and offers four exhibition spaces within its luminous 3,500 square foot gallery space.
