HONG KONG.- Bonhams' auction of Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art achieved strong results with nearly 90% percent sold by value on 4 June in Hong Kong.

The sale was led by a very rare Imperial famille rose bottle vase, Yongzheng mark and of the period, which sold for HK$ 11,560,000, more than 10 times the pre-sale estimate (HK$ 800,000-1,200,000). As soon as the vase went on offer, frenzied bidding in the saleroom and on the telephone led to a rapid escalation in the bid price in a matter of seconds.

Rounding out the sale's highlights was an exceptionally rare Imperial teadust-ground famille rose vase, Qianlong seal mark and of the period (1736-1795) which brought HK$ 9,040,000 (estimate: 6,000,000-8,000,000) and a magnificent very pale green jade teapot and cover, 18th/19th century, which took in HK$ 5,920,000, well ahead of an estimate of HK$600,000-800,000.

Asaph Hyman, Director Chinese Art, said: “We are delighted with the strong results, demonstrating the exceptional demand for rare objects with established provenance.”

The next Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art auction will take place at Bonhams Hong Kong in November 2015.
