The Poets of Glass: Exhibition of works from Lucien Arkas’ collection opens at Antik A.S.

ISTANBUL .- A week ago, Turkish auction house Antik A.S. invited hundreds of collectors, scholars and art patrons to its main headquarters in Istanbul for an important exhibition from Lucien Arkas’ collection.

Luıcien Arkas, owner of the Arkas shipping and logistic company in Turkey, has shared his passion for glass works in an elegant exhibition in Antik A.S.

Lucien Arkas’ private collection features the prominent Art-Nouveau glassmakers Emile Gallé (1846-1904), the Daum brothers and René Lalique. This unique exhibition opened at the Antik A.S. main hall in Istanbul on May 16th, featuring 172 pieces produced by these world-famous artisans, will remain open until July 26th 2015.

Nurcan Artam, chairperson of Antik A.S., commented on the exhibition: "Antik A.S. is delighted to present “The Poets of Glass” from an important collector’s collection, Mr. Lucien Arkas. Consummate expressions of aesthetic poetry and artistic mastery, these glassworks are also records of the refined taste of graceful Art-Nouveau style. By bringing these enchanting glass works together for the first time Istanbul, we would love to invite everybody interested in Art-Nouveau or glassware to visit this exhibition..

Many important works made by renowned glassmaker Emile Gallé will be on display in this exhibit, which clearly shows the innovative ideas that emerged in glass work toward the end of the 19th century. In addition to Gallé’s work, there are a number of pieces from the Daum brothers, the most prominent representative of the School of Nancy (École de Nancy), as well as the famous designer René Lalique. The exhibition features valuable artwork that has been purchased from various locations around the world, which makes it one of the most unique glass collections in the world.

The exhibition takes place in Antik A.S. Istanbul, in the main bulding of Antik A.S.. Founded in 1981 by Nurcan and Turgay Artam, Antik A.Ş. was the first fully professional auction house established in Turkey. Antik A.S. organized the first Antiques Fair in the country.
