VADUZ.- On May 23rd, 2015, the Hilti Art Foundation opened its own exhibition building in the middle of Vaduz. Thereby, the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein is being enriched with a high-ranking and well known international private art collection. 50 select paintings, statues, sculptures and objects ranging from the Classic Modern Age to the present can be viewed.

Since its founding 15 years ago the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein has embarked on a tight cooperation with the Hilti Art Foundation. Consequently, several pieces of art belonging to the collection, which has been systematically compiled by Hilti since the early 1990s, have been displayed in exhibitions of the art museum. This cooperation is now continued and intensified thanks to new premises. It serves to complement and mutually strengthen the various focuses of the collections.

Last but not least, the design of the new home of the Hilti Art Foundation in the shape of a cube is a visible expression of this alliance. The building, which was designed by the Basel based architects Morger + Dettli forms a unit with the art museum located directly adjacent to it. Both the cube shape and the construction as well as the material used for the façade reflect the togetherness of both museums. The entrance is – like before - located at the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein.

Approximately 200 pieces of art ranging from the Classic Modern Age to the present are part of the collection belonging to the Hilti Art Foundation. For the current exhibition, 50 of them have been selected and are being shown on the three floors of the museum.

A main focus is mankind and its individual representation within the scope of paintings and sculptures between 1910 and 1970. Dating from this epoch, there are eleven works of art under the heading “Mysterium Mensch” (the Mystery of Man) by Picasso, Beckmann and Giacometti among others, located in the basement of the building.

The first floor is dedicated to the artists of the Classical Modern Age. Expressionism, Cubism and Surrealism enjoy special attention among the art works which were created between 1880 and 1945. Under the topic “Experiment and Existence”, the exhibition presents over 20 representative works by Seurat, Gauguin and Dubuffet, among others.

On the third floor, visitors are subjected to art created after 1945. The art works that were selected for this area look into the notions of “Immanence and Transparency”, exemplified by a total of 17 paintings, sculptures and objects by Josef Albers, Imi Knoebel and others.

Within the new premises, there is also a large art studio which is meant to reinforce art education in the future. The innovative introduction, addressing all age groups, is conducted in accordance with the latest pedagogical knowledge.
