NEW YORK, NY.- Muriel Guépin Gallery presents Zin Helena Song's first solo exhibit of three-dimensional paintings. By painting on geometric wooden wall sculptures or assembled canvas lit from within by LED lights, her work pushes the idiom of abstract geometry into new areas of expressions.

Zin Helena Song is a young Korean painter and sculptor of real precision and technical acuity. Her process begins with line drawing informed by urban landscape fragments, which evolve into geometric abstraction. She states that "Within the complexity theory of life, every single element is related to every other element, and they interact in ways that can create startling and synergistic effects." Her visually complex compositions are diagrammed according to notions of order and multiplicity in modern urban society.

Song describes her painting process as a "dialogue with the canvas, as we "talk" the painting comes alive. When polygonal planes meet they dialog with each other, creating unexpected effects. The interplay of canvas shape, surface-angles, composition, and color all effect the viewers perception of the work." Several larger works are even lit from within by LED lights placed beneath the linen, which reflect an aura of color onto the wall, making them more vibrant and present.

Her strong sense of color relations invigorates both the concept and the expressiveness found in her art. She also possesses an impeccable mastery of design and her self-made ethereal three-dimensional geometric wooden shapes augment the crisp geometric lines of her color painted planes. Titles of her work like 'Trapezium Origami" reflect the combination of geometry and playfulness as well as complex influences from Western modernism to Asian paper folding traditions."

Born and currently based in Seoul, Korea, Song completed her undergraduate studies at Kook Min University before traveling to New York, where she earned her MFA from L.I.U. Post.

The show will be on view until June 7, 2015.
