ASPEN, CO.- Beginning Friday, April 10, 2015, the
Aspen Art Museum presents the first museum survey of New Yorkbased photographer Anne Collier. The exhibitionwhich features twenty-seven works and remains on view through Sunday, July 5examines integral themes within her artistic practice, including the conventions of commercial photography and pop psychology, tracing Colliers career from 2002 to the present.
Turning her lens on images already present in popular culturebooks, record albums, magazines, and film stillsAnne Collier considers the integral role photography and image-making play within contemporary society. The exhibition was curated by Michael Darling, and initially presented at CCA Bard (June 28September 21, 2014) followed by the MCA Chicago (November 22, 2014March 8, 2015).
Anne Collier also produced three unique photographs of the famous record single Aint No Mountain High Enough for the 2014-15 edition of the annual collaboration between the Aspen Art Museum and Aspen Skiing Company. Written by Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson in 1966, and originally recorded under the Tamla Motown label, Aint No Mountain High Enough was also recorded by Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye. Colliers series included images of all three releases.
Anne Collier is organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. This exhibition is overseen in Aspen by Heidi Zuckerman, Nancy and Bob Magoon CEO and Director.
